Boolio, an Ovissian male, served as a mine overseer at the Sinta Glacier Colony amidst the First Order and Resistance war. Secretly, he sympathized with the Resistance, providing them with hidden shipments of supplies. Following an inspection by a First Order team at the colony, Boolio found a datafile in his office. This file was marked as highly valuable intelligence for the Resistance, originating from a traitor within the First Order ranks.
Choosing not to electronically transmit the data, Boolio made contact with the Resistance, arranging a face-to-face meeting at the colony. The YT-1300 light freighter, famously known as the Millennium Falcon, was dispatched to the rendezvous point. Upon its arrival, Boolio handed over the crucial file to the astromech droid R2-D2 aboard the freighter. After the Falcon's departure, Boolio met his death at the hands of the First Order. His severed head was then presented to the First Order Supreme Council by Supreme Leader Kylo Ren.

Born on Sinta IV in 1 ABY, Boolio, an Ovissian male, held the position of mine overseer at the Sinta Glacier Colony. The colony's primary function was to extract ice cores from the Sinta Glacier for the harvesting of malsarr. During the war between the First Order and the Resistance, his sympathies lay with the Resistance, leading him to become a key informant. He managed to secretly divert extra materials and minerals from the mines onto transport starships supporting their cause. He successfully organized several shipments to the Resistance over a span of months, with two of these shipments being received by Finn, a former stormtrooper.
Following the discovery of a discrepancy in the colony's financial records, a First Order inspection team was dispatched to investigate. After their departure without any immediate comments, Boolio stumbled upon a datapad in his office containing a datafile. This file claimed to hold vital intelligence about the First Order for the Resistance. However, Boolio lacked the ability to fully decrypt the file. After confirming its authenticity as a message from a high-ranking First Order officer based on the encryption methods used, he reached out to the Resistance through intermediaries, as his position as mine overseer did not grant him access to secure communication channels.

To avoid the risk of exposing the sensitive intelligence, Boolio's message to the Resistance promised a regulator needed to repair the Tantive IV, the CR90 corvette commanded by Resistance leader General Leia Organa. To expedite their arrival, he offered the part at an exceptionally low price, emphasizing its critical nature and imminent failure. In 35 ABY, the Resistance sent a crew from the moon Ajan Kloss aboard the YT-1300 light freighter known as the Millennium Falcon to meet Boolio in person at the colony.
The freighter navigated through the colony's icy tunnels before coming to a stop beneath a hatch leading to a dimly lit, icy corridor where Boolio awaited. Finn and the astromech droid R2-D2 greeted Boolio through a hatch in the Falcon's roof, at which point the overseer disclosed the real purpose of their meeting at the colony.
After lowering one end of a cable for Finn to connect to R2-D2, Boolio confessed that he was unaware of the identity of the First Order traitor, but urged them to deliver the data to Organa. When asked about compensation, Boolio simply replied, "Win the war." With the transfer completed, Boolio quickly retracted the cable, allowing the Falcon to make a swift escape as First Order TIE/sf space superiority fighters and TIE/wi Interceptors initiated pursuit. The Falcon's crew successfully delivered Boolio's intelligence to Organa and the Resistance, revealing the return of Sith Lord Darth Sidious and his provision of the Sith Eternal's fleet, the Final Order, to the First Order. This fleet was poised to attack all remaining free worlds, enabling him to re-establish a new Sith Empire and reign as Galactic Emperor.
Boolio's assistance to the Resistance ultimately cost him his life. He was captured by the First Order and brought to the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast. Escorted by a group of stormtroopers, Boolio was presented to Supreme Leader Kylo Ren by Admiral Frantis Griss. Ren immediately ignited his lightsaber and decapitated the Ovissian. Boolio's severed head was then displayed to the First Order Supreme Council by Ren.

Ren announced to the Council his knowledge of a traitor within the First Order who had communicated with the Resistance. However, he remained unaware that the traitor who had used Boolio as a contact was General Armitage Hux, a member of the council present before him.
Hux was later executed by Allegiant General Enric Pryde aboard the Steadfast after Pryde discerned his true motives. Despite his death, Boolio's actions provided the Resistance with the crucial information needed to formulate a strategy to confront Darth Sidious' return. His desire for the Resistance to achieve victory in the war was ultimately realized when they triumphed over the Sith Eternal forces at the Battle of Exegol.
Boolio possessed greenish-yellow skin, golden eyes, and yellow horns, standing at a height of 1.78 meters. He was known for his amiable nature, often displaying a broad grin. During the data transfer, the Ovissian exhibited nervousness, fearing that the First Order would discover his assistance to the Resistance. Finn mistakenly believed that Boolio would not have risked his life solely to confirm Palpatine's return. However, Boolio, unable to decrypt the datafile, had taken the risk without knowing the file's contents. Even after his capture, he faced Ren with defiance, showing no fear before his execution.
Boolio wore an orange mining thermal worksuit insulated with heat-conductive filaments. A personal temperature-control unit was mounted on his chest for the low-temperature suit, along with an orange and brown ice-abseiling harness. He also used a wrist-mounted comlink and data-storage unit on his left arm.
Boolio was conceived for the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the concluding chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. He was physically portrayed by creature performer Aidan Cook and voiced by Mark Hamill, best known for his role as Luke Skywalker. Hamill was credited under the pseudonym Patrick Williams, a combination of his brothers' names, for his role as Boolio.
Boolio's existence was initially revealed as part of a Force Friday product launch on StarWars.com, due to his inclusion in the 75257 Millennium Falcon LEGO set. The 2020 novelization of Episode IX by Rae Carson features slightly different dialogue in the exchange between Boolio and Finn, specifically mentioning the regulator and First Order inspection.

According to Neal Scanlan, head of the creature workshop, Boolio's impending decapitation significantly influenced his design, as holding a severed head presented challenges. Holding the head by the hair was deemed too violent, leading to the selection of curved horns. The horns were repositioned during sculpting to allow for swinging the head down onto a table. The location of the decapitation cut, the angle and placement of the horns, and the width of Boolio's jaw were all carefully considered for the shot of the head. Scanlan showcased the head to producer Kathleen Kennedy, director J.J. Abrams, and actor Adam Driver.
Creature concept designer Jake Lunt Davies created several pieces of concept art for Boolio, including "Alien Pilot 01," depicting Boolio as a red-skinned alien with head tentacles for Ren to hold instead of horns. Lunt Davies also created "Boolio 05" and "Boolio Gunner 05," the latter showing Boolio in a gunner's seat similar to those in the Millennium Falcon. One of the unused Boolio concept art pieces later inspired the character Ochi.
