Ajan Kloss

Ajan Kloss, gridded at L-5 on the Standard Galactic Grid, was a moon teeming with jungle vegetation. This celestial body orbited Ajara, a gas giant within the Cademimu sector of the Outer Rim Territories. Famously, Luke Skywalker selected it as the location to instruct Leia Organa in the ways of the Jedi Order, marking her as the inaugural student of his newly established Jedi lineage. Later, it became a strategic base for the Resistance during their war against the First Order.

Description

Ajan Kloss presented as a vibrant, flourishing moon.

Despite its status as a moon, Ajan Kloss itself possessed a pair of orbiting moons. Its parent gas giant provided a protective barrier against dangerous radiation. The vibrant jungle ecosystem was carefully monitored by Resistance scouting parties, who were in constant search of new species with medicinal potential. The humid climate, however, forced technicians to dedicate extra effort to ensure electronic equipment was properly moisture-proofed. Other challenges included infections from fungal organisms and insects, but the moon lacked any significant predatory creatures. Jedi Master Luke Skywalker drew parallels between Ajan Kloss and Dagobah, the planet where he underwent his own training with Yoda years prior. He observed that both worlds shared characteristics such as being humid, warm, and green, with abundant life, but Ajan Kloss had the advantage of lacking the unpleasant odor associated with Dagobah. The [Ajara](/article/ajara] gas giant reflected sunlight, which illuminated the moon's surface. This enabled plants to photosynthesize even during nighttime hours.

History

The Kloss

Long before the arrival of the Resistance, the Kloss people inhabited the Klosslands and utilized the natural caves as dwellings. Historian Beaumont Kin put forth the idea that the cave which became the Resistance base in 35 ABY may have once served as a shelter or storage facility for the Kloss.

Imperial Era

Before the outbreak of the Galactic Civil War, Alderaanian scouting teams mapped Ajan Kloss, which was situated in a sparsely explored region of space branching from the Celanon Spur. However, these scouts intentionally kept this information from the Imperial Senate, as Ajan Kloss was considered as a potential location for a rebel base, similar to Yavin 4 and [Dantooine](/article/dantooine]. The ever-changing battle lines against the Empire, however, prevented Ajan Kloss from being used during the war.

New Republic Era

After the Battle of Endor, Organa undertook Jedi training from her brother.

Following the Battle of Endor, Luke Skywalker and his sister, Leia Organa, chose Ajan Kloss as a training site, a suggestion put forward by Leia herself. It was here that Skywalker initiated Organa into the ways of the Jedi, making her his first student. During her training as her twin brother's first Padawan, she honed her skills with her lightsaber through sparring sessions, becoming highly proficient with the weapon. Organa ceased her training after experiencing a vision of her son's death at the end of her path.

Following the establishment of the New Republic, Ajan Kloss served as a quiet stopover point between Republic installations.

Rise of the First Order

During the war against the First Order, the Resistance maintained a presence on Ajan Kloss. The mission to locate Exegol originated from the Resistance base there. Once the location of the hidden world was discovered, the Resistance forces mobilized and prepared for the battle against the Sith Eternal. After the battle, the allied fleet returned to Ajan Kloss to celebrate their victory.

Behind the scenes

Ajan Kloss was created for the 2019 movie Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the final film of the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

The reference book Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Galactic Guide mistakenly identified Ajan Kloss as a planet instead of a moon.
