Beaumont Kin, a male human historian, existed during the time of the New Republic Era. During the Imperial Era, Kin was born on the planet Lerct. He became an educator, once poised to be among the youngest professors at the Lerct Historical Institute. However, he instead chose to join the Resistance during their war against the First Order, serving as a Resistance trooper. He fought in the attack on Kashyyyk and the Battle of Exegol. In the months that followed, he spearheaded the Exegol Excavation Project and authored The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, a historical work intended to educate the galaxy on the evils of Imperialism.
Around 5 BBY, during the Imperial Era, Beaumont Kin came into the world. This male human was born to a mother and father who, according to his own account, deemed him "useless." Kin attributed his decision to abandon a promising future and enlist in the Resistance to this alleged assessment, though Daz Crano, a fellow Resistance member, questioned his sincerity, and Kin never confirmed it. He was a student at the Arhul Hextrophon School of Embedded Journalism, where he crossed paths with Voren Na'al, a historian belonging to the Rebel Alliance.
Kin was deeply interested in the early Republic period after the Sith's defeat. This interest drove him to explore locations like Malachor, Moraband, and Devaron, seeking knowledge about the ancient Jedi and Sith, and the forgotten conflicts that shaped the galaxy.
By 21 ABY, having obtained his doctorate, he was working towards his dissertation at the Lerct Historical Institute on Hosnian Prime as a junior research assistant, mentored by Professor Re-Bec Arclarka. Kin utilized a semester's worth of grant funding to lead an archaeological expedition to Yoturba. Towards the end of the expedition, they received visits from Jedi Master Luke Skywalker and the renowned explorer Lor San Tekka. During their visit, the excavation team unearthed an ancient Sith holocron. Kin expressed interest in using the holocron to initiate a new collection of Sith artifacts and to begin research into the Sith, but Arclarka swiftly dismissed his aspirations, deeming it inappropriate for the university's premises.
Kin aspired to be an educator, and was on the verge of becoming one of the youngest professors at the Lerct Historical Institute when the Hosnian system faced destruction. Abandoning his academic pursuits, he enlisted in the Resistance, achieving the rank of captain within the intelligence division.
During the war with the First Order, he was a Resistance trooper in the Resistance Army. He participated in an attack against the First Order's blockade of Kashyyyk, the homeworld of the Wookiee species. While fighting for the Resistance, he befriended the legendary Rebel hero Chewbacca, developing a close enough relationship to call the Wookiee by his nickname, "Chewie." Kin was aboard the Millennium Falcon as they approached Kashyyyk and sent coordinates to Daz Crano. After they landed and freed some captured Wookies, Chewbacca ran off. Kin and Crano gave chase, stopping at the edge of the Black Forest while Chewbacca battled First Order troopers.

Kin, along with Nien Nunb and Crano, resumed their search for Chewbacca, eventually finding the Wookiee with more freed brethren. Later, the Resistance team was moving through the forest when Chewbacca trapped First Order troopers to free more slaves. Kin and the others arrived just in time to support Chewbacca. Stationed at the Resistance base on Ajan Kloss, Kin engaged in combat training with Rose Tico and Kaydel Connix, establishing close bonds with both. He assisted Rey in deciphering the ancient Jedi texts she had brought from Ahch-To, where Luke Skywalker had watched over them.

In 35 ABY, Kin was present with the rest of the Resistance during the Battle of Exegol. He was transported by a transport hauler, the Fortitude, along with Resistance troopers and Orbaks, and participated in the ground assault on the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast.
After the First Order-Resistance War ended, Kin was given the task of leading an excavation of the Sith Citadel on Exegol. He also started writing a book titled The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire. In the time after the war, he had a very hard time adjusting emotionally and professionally.
Kin was a human with blond hair, blue eyes, and a light skin tone. His personality often made it difficult for others to determine if he was being serious or joking, a fact that was often brought to his attention. He was a dedicated scholar, and his knowledge of subjects like the Sith and the Jedi proved valuable to the Resistance. He showed a particular interest in Sith attempts to cheat death, such as by plundering planets famous for genetic sciences. Kin also told Crano that his parents thought he was useless. Kin did not regret the violence he committed during the First Order-Resistance War, seeing his actions as necessary, but he struggled greatly to cope with his actions and the things he witnessed following the war.

Beaumont Kin had fluency in nine languages, including Shyriiwook, the language of the Wookiee species, and was capable of translate them for others, though he struggled with certain dialects. He described himself as a historian and shared his knowledge of Kashyyyk's history with his fellow soldiers during the attack on the planet. Because he was fluent in so many languages and well-versed in the ancient Jedi language, Kin helped Rey decipher the texts while the Resistance was on Ajan Kloss.
He was also skilled at using a blaster pistol.
He wore a weatherproof field jacket that repelled water, and protective antiglare goggles. He carried code cylinders in his shoulder pocket and kept notes on Jedi texts in his breast pocket. He was armed with an EL-16 blaster rifle and an ERDT Glie-44 blaster pistol.

Beaumont Kin made his debut in the 2019 film Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the concluding chapter of the Star Wars sequel trilogy. Dominic Monaghan played the character. The character first appeared in the 2019 comic "Ghosts of Kashyyyk, Part 1" by John Barber, which was part of the Journey to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker publishing program, where he was identified as Beaumont. His surname, "Kin," was revealed in previews for Topps' 2020 Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Series 2 trading card set, which previewed trading cards autographed by Monaghan for the character.
The Rise of Skywalker director J.J. Abrams created the role of Kin specifically for Dominic Monaghan, having previously collaborated with him on the ABC TV series Lost. Although Monaghan wasn't contacted for the 2015 film Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens, Abrams later offered him the role of Beaumont Kin, which Monaghan secured after England defeated Colombia in the Round of 16 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup as part of a wager with Abrams.
While Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary indicates that Kin was striving to become a professor, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: A Junior Novel established that he had previously held the position. The 2024 reference book Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire later clarified that he had indeed worked in academia.
