Devaron, a planet covered in jungle terrain, resided within the Devaron system situated in the Colonies region of the galaxy. This world served as the homeworld for the Devaronian species. Notably, it housed a Jedi Temple and witnessed both a significant battle during the Clone Wars and a minor skirmish throughout the Galactic Civil War.
Situated within the Colonies, Devaron presented itself as a planet with a temperate climate, largely covered by dense forests. Its landscape was characterized by numerous rivers and valleys, set against a mountainous backdrop. The native inhabitants meticulously maintained the planet's ecological harmony across countless generations. Sparsely inhabited regions flourished in their untouched state, with urbanization and industrial activities confined to specific cities or settlements. The Devaronians, renowned for their interstellar voyages, stood out as one of the first species to venture beyond their own world, significantly advancing space travel and exploration.

The preservation of their environment was deeply ingrained in Devaronian culture, enabling the planet to conserve its innate splendor. Male Devaronians displayed a tendency for wanderlust, exploring the jungles of Devaron, while the females dedicated themselves to constructing lasting cities and societies. The jungles of Devaron were distinguished by their dense networks of vines that traversed the landscape. These vines, forming arches over entire jungle areas, served as walkways and bridges, connecting hills and spanning valleys. Wildlife thrived in the shelter provided by these vines, contributing to Devaron's diverse biosphere teeming with creatures of all kinds.
The environmental integrity of Devaron faced threats when the Galactic Empire rose to power. The Imperial governor in charge during the Galactic Civil War gained notoriety for his opulent wildlife hunts and for depriving the native population of the ability to cultivate their own food.
Devaron's past is defined by a cultural schism between the Devaronian species' two genders: males were prone to wanderlust, while females aimed to establish cities and foster culture. As this split grew during the pre-industrial age, males had to journey for days from settlements to hunt, while females maintained camp safety and organization. The Devaronian females began to industrialize as hunting expeditions through the jungles became a cultural rite of passage for males, eventually evolving into a spacefaring culture as early as thirty thousand years before the Battle of Yavin. After mastering hyperdrive technology, the Devaronians began exploring the space surrounding Devaron, helping to pioneer the Corellian Trade Spine after making contact with the greater galaxy.
Spaceports started appearing in populated areas of the planet, each with a plaza called the Point of Parting, where families said goodbye to departing explorers. As the planet created a planetary government, it became one of the Galactic Republic's first members. Devaronians served as hyperspace scouts due to its location as one of the Republic's outermost planets for millennia, and they could easily find work in interstellar travel. By sending a sizable portion of their earnings back to Devaron, the planet was able to sustain a thriving economy without polluting the world's rich ecological wonders with industrial districts. While Devaron's government had established a fair and balanced democratic system that allowed males and females to pursue the lifestyle they saw fit, the majority of Devaron's best and brightest leaders, politicians, and business elites were females.
At some point in Devaron's history, the Jedi Order built a training facility deep within Devaron's jungles. The Temple of Eedit was constructed on a vergence strong in the Force, which gave the entire area a profound sense of power. The human Gella Nattai, who would later become a Jedi Knight and was born around 412 BBY, was left at the temple on Devaron by her parents when she was a child.
During the Clone Wars, the Grand Army of the Republic maintained an outpost on the planet. During the war, the bounty hunter Cad Bane and the Confederacy of Independent Systems attacked Devaron. Later, Savage Opress attacked the Temple of Eedit, killing Jedi Master Halsey and his Padawan Knox. The elite Delta Squad found their bodies.
The planet fell under Imperial control at the conclusion of the war, and the system was heavily patrolled by the naval. Shortly after the Battle of Yavin, Luke Skywalker started experiencing visions of the Temple of Eedit there. He traveled to Devaron to see the temple and begin his Jedi training, and he discovered the temple's entrance by a secret cave next to a derelict dam that had been destroyed during the Clone Wars. The Empire kept the main temple entrance off-limits and under surveillance. While there, Skywalker went on a journey of self-discovery and trained with three remotes, learning how to utilize lightsaber combat to deflect their blasts. Skywalker vowed to return to the planet once more to uphold the traditions of the Jedi who formerly lived there after escaping an Imperial attack on him at the temple and befriending the young Devaronian Farnay.
The appointment of a dishonest human governor on the planet prompted some Devaronians to join the Rebel Alliance. As more Devaronians started to oppose Imperial rule, the Empire meddled with the remittances that Devaronians living abroad sent to the planet in an effort to make the species easier to control. The Devaronians believed their voice in the galactic conversation had been muted with the loss of the Imperial Senate. Luke Skywalker returned to Devaron to see the Temple of Eedit once more after defeating the Emperor and Darth Vader in the decisive Battle of Endor. While there he visited Farnay, thus fulfilling the promise he made years prior.
In 5 ABY, the New Republic, which succeeded the Rebel Alliance, built a number of outposts on Devaron. These outposts were staffed by diplomats, liaisons, scientists, and soldiers. They also delivered food and drinkable water. One of these outposts was located one hundred klicks from an ancient Jedi temple. Shortly before the Battle of Jakku, a cell of the Acolytes of the Beyond commanded by former Imperial Advisor Yupe Tashu attacked the outpost as part of a series of galaxy-wide attacks on New Republic outposts. Kiza, a Pantoran, and her human lover Remi were two of the participants. When Remi attempted to retrieve his lightsaber from her, she murdered him.
The planet Devaron, which was first featured in Legends publications, was situated in the Colonies region of the galaxy. The planet was mistakenly identified as being in the Outer Rim Territories in The Weapon of a Jedi when it was reintroduced in canon publications. Subsequent publications, including Star Wars: The Force Awakens Beginner Game and Nexus of Power, reaffirmed that the planet was located in the Colonies region.
