Orbaks were a species of riding beasts that resembled horses. These creatures were present on multiple planets, but their precise galactic origins remained a mystery. A herd of orbaks inhabited Kef Bir, an ocean moon, which served as their homeworld.
Orbaks possessed tusks that aided in extracting grasses for consumption, and their strong hooves enabled them to navigate challenging terrains effectively. They shared kinship with other rideable animals, such as pulga, fathiers, bordoks, and tris. They exhibited thick coats of either black or white fur, accompanied by subtly curved backs.
In frontier regions, orbaks were frequently tamed for roles in agriculture, transportation, and occasionally military operations. Company 77, a group of stormtroopers who deserted the First Order, successfully tamed several orbaks on Kef Bir. Under the leadership of Jannah, the tribe adopted a nomadic existence, utilizing the orbaks as their primary mode of transportation. The members of Company 77 fostered a strong bond with their orbaks, relying on them for rapid exploration and travel, while reciprocally safeguarding the creatures from predators.
During the Resistance's assault against the forces of the Sith Eternal commanded by the resurrected Darth Sidious, Finn and Jannah rode orbaks during a ground assault taking place on top of the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Steadfast, which served as the flagship of First Order Allegiant General Enric Pryde.
Orbaks were conceived for inclusion in the 2019 movie Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker. Their initial unveiling occurred on May 22, 2019, as part of a larger presentation of visuals and information pertaining to the film. They made their debut appearance in a related in-game event within the mobile game Star Wars: Commander on December 19, 2019.
