Antes Belladar

The Human male governor of the agricultural planet Reytha, Antes Belladar, held his position during the Galactic Empire's rule. The Alliance to Restore the Republic seized control of Reytha in 0 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War, a takeover Belladar couldn't prevent. Ultimately, the Sith Lord Darth Vader intervened, successfully eliminating the Rebels from several of Reytha's key cities. Following Belladar's discovery of a Rebel presence within the Montrosa Islands, Vader directed his army to that location. Upon his arrival, Vader executed Belladar for his failure to stop the Alliance's initial conquest, before proceeding to eradicate the remaining Rebels on the planet.

Biography

Antes Belladar, a Human male, was a servant of the Galactic Empire and achieved the rank of governor on the agricultural planet Reytha some years prior to 0 ABY. Belladar commanded a small defensive force on Reytha; in 0 ABY, during the Galactic Civil War – a major conflict between the Empire and the Alliance to Restore the Republic – he proved unable to prevent the Alliance from seizing control. In response to the Rebel threat, the Governor was compelled to request assistance from the Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, who had already learned of the Rebels' intentions to capture Reytha. Vader had chased them from their base on the moon Yavin 4. Receiving this information, Vader immediately departed for Reytha, understanding that the loss of its food resources could severely impact the Empire.

Belladar's failure to prevent the Rebel uprising on Reytha brought down the wrath of the Empire.

Upon Vader's arrival, Belladar expressed his gratitude for the prompt response to his plea and reported that the Alliance was still in the process of preparing their attack on the planet. However, a probe droid scan revealed that the Rebels had already successfully taken over Reytha. Vader initially intended to target the capital city, Reytha Minor, but instead directed his army to assault and retake the smaller cities of Teks and Breeda for the Empire. Following Vader's success, Belladar expressed surprise at his ability to defeat the Rebels in those locations. Once the Empire had amassed sufficient soldiers, they launched their assault on Reytha Minor, destroying the Rebels' command center. Subsequently, Belladar received a report from a Reythan soldier indicating that the Alliance had established multiple bases within the planet's Montrosa Islands. Belladar relayed this information to Vader, who then proceeded to the islands.

Upon the arrival of Vader's army at the islands, Belladar provided details regarding the structure of the Rebel bases. Vader, however, questioned the Governor about how the Rebels had been able to infiltrate Reytha, but Belladar was unsure as to the meaning of Vader's questions. Concluding that the Governor had failed the Empire for the last time, Vader employed the Force to strangle Belladar, resulting in his death. Vader then proceeded to destroy the Rebel bases in the Montrosa Islands and continued his search for the Alliance Fleet.

Personality and traits

Antes Belladar managed to attain the governorship of Reytha under Imperial rule, but his time on the relatively peaceful world led many to believe he had become complacent. The Empire even entertained the notion that Belladar might be a Rebel sympathizer. Emperor's Hand Mara Jade considered the Governor to be weak in his abilities. When Darth Vader arrived on Reytha, Belladar provided him with outdated information, indicating that the Rebel Alliance was only preparing to attack when, in reality, they had already completed their takeover of the planet. Belladar preferred delegating tasks and would complain about injuries when instructed to complete a task himself. Belladar had fair skin.

Equipment

Belladar wore a visor attached to an orange helmet that covered most of his face. He also wore a dark blue tunic, a shirt with orange sleeves, dark green pants, and brown shoes.

Behind the scenes

Antes Belladar was initially referenced in Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Prima's Official Strategy Guide by Steven L. Kent, which was released on November 7, 2001. He then appeared in the LucasArts video game Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, which was released on November 11, 2001, where he was voiced by James Horan. Belladar's voice could be heard in the second and third levels of the Imperial campaign, titled "Breaking Bread" and "Fire, Earth, Water and Air," respectively. Belladar's only physical appearance is within the game's scenario editor, where players can utilize him as a unique unit. Belladar's first name is also exclusively provided in the level editor; within the campaign, his character is consistently referred to as "Reytha Governor," with his last name being mentioned in dialogue with Darth Vader.

A discrepancy involving Belladar exists within Galactic Battlegrounds. At the conclusion of the first level of the Imperial campaign, the Empire discovers intelligence on Yavin 4 that leads them to Reytha. However, at the beginning of the subsequent level, Belladar thanks Vader for responding to his call for assistance, and Vader inquires as to why he was summoned. This article posits that the Empire discovered the intelligence on Yavin 4, departed for Reytha, and that Belladar requested Vader's aid concurrently.
