An individual known as an Aquillian Ranger functioned during the Imperial Era. In 9 BBY, while Princess Leia Organa was spotting starships above Alderaan, she observed a Tri-Wing S-91x Pegasus Starfighter and speculated that it was an Aquillian Ranger scouting on behalf of the Merson pirates.
The Aquillian Rangers' genesis lies within George Lucas' second draft of the original Star Wars film. This was seemingly a reference to Aquilae, a planet featured in both the earlier rough draft and the first draft. Deak Starkiller was originally envisioned as both a Jedi and an Aquillian Ranger; subsequently, some aspects of his character were transferred to Princess Leia. The third draft positions the Aquillian Rangers alongside the Rebels on Yavin 4.
Within Star Wars Legends continuity, the Antarian Rangers partly adopted the Aquillian Rangers' backstory as allies of the Jedi. However, the name "Aquillian Rangers" itself was not officially introduced into canon until Leia mentioned them in Part I of the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
