During the Naboo Invasion, the Trade Federation Droid Army launched an assault on the Gungan capital of Otoh Gunga, invading the swamps of Naboo. Captain Roos Tarpals, positioned on the edge of the city, witnessed the impending attack and alerted the inhabitants to the approaching battle droids by activating an alarm. He oversaw the Gungan's retreat into Naboo's swampy terrain, leading them to the sacred place. Following the assault, Otoh Gunga was deserted. The Gungans were able to go back to their settlements after the Trade Federation's defeat.
Following the capture of Theed during the Trade Federation's occupation of the planet Naboo, Commander OOM-9, an OOM command battle droid, dispatched troops to scout the different Gungan villages located across the planet.
