Attack on the Shock Drum facility

In the year 3643 BBY, during Darth Angral's war of vengeance, a Sith Lord seeking retribution for the death of his son, Tarnis, against both the Galactic Republic and the Jedi Order, Angral's apprentice, Lord Praven, with the assistance of Imperial soldiers, assaulted the Shock Drum facility located on the planet Tatooine. The facility, which housed the Republic research team working on the Shock Drum superweapon, was protected by numerous security droids and Jedi Master Bela Kiwiiks. Kiwiiks managed to defeat many of the Imperial attackers before engaging Praven in combat. The Sith Pureblood emerged victorious in their duel, destroying the remaining security droids before leaving the facility with the Shock Drum prototype and an unconscious Kiwiiks as a prisoner.

Prelude

Back in 3643 BBY, Tarnis' secret mission as a Republic scientist during the Cold War with the Sith Empire was put at risk by the arrival of Jedi Master Bela Kiwiiks and her Padawan, Kira Carsen, on the Republic capital of Coruscant. Abandoning his disguise as a scientist working on the Planet Prison superweapon, Tarnis led Republic security forces and several Jedi on a chase throughout the capital city before attempting to use the stolen Planet Prison against Coruscant itself. However, Tarnis was killed by a Jedi Knight—the former apprentice of Jedi Master Orgus Din—before his plans could be realized. Darth Angral, the Sith's father, witnessed the Knight's duel with Tarnis.

Enraged and armed with intelligence on the entire Republic superweapon initiative provided by his son, Angral began a war against the Republic and the Jedi Order to avenge his son's passing. The elder Sith Lord sent his three apprentices, Sadic, Nefarid, and Praven, to seize control of the Republic's three off-world weapons facilities. Praven, a Sith pureblood, journeyed to the desert world of Tatooine to acquire the Shock Drum weapon. However, Kiwiiks had arrived on Tatooine shortly before, as the Republic had become aware of the vulnerability of its weapons facilities shortly before Tarnis's demise. She reached the Shock Drum facility in the Northern Jundland Wastes before Praven and his complement of Imperial soldiers.

The attack

The Shock Drum, the target of Praven's forces

Before initiating their attack on the facility, Praven's soldiers disabled the compound's power generators, rendering the exterior defenses inactive. As the soldiers stormed the facility, the Togruta Jedi Master Kiwiiks fought single-handedly against many of them, attempting to protect both the Shock Drum prototype and the project's research team, which included a seismologist named Hare'en and a clan of Jawas native to the planet. The compound's security droids assisted Kiwiiks, but Praven's presence shifted the advantage to the Imperials. The Sith Lord eliminated the droid defenders and engaged Kiwiiks in a duel, forcing the older combatant into a defensive stance. Kiwiiks managed to withstand Praven's assault for a short duration, but their battle ultimately concluded when Praven knocked her unconscious and departed with his remaining soldiers, taking both the Jedi Master and the Shock Drum as his prizes.

Aftermath

Upon discovering that Praven had captured the Jedi Master who had identified Tarnis on Coruscant, Angral, consumed by vengeance, commanded his apprentice to abandon Kiwiiks to perish alongside the Shock Drum. He also instructed Praven to activate the superweapon and alter the deactivation codes, ensuring that Tarnis's killer would fail regardless of reaching the Shock Drum. Despite his personal aversion to his Master's orders, as they contradicted Praven's strict code of honor, the Sith Lord complied and left the Shock Drum beneath a mining complex in Tatooine's Dune Sea region. With the Shock Drum Facility's defenses offline, the native Tusken Raiders began to plunder the compound, compelling Hare'en and the Jawas to seek refuge in one of the facility's secure chambers. The Jedi Knight responsible for Tarnis's death soon arrived on Tatooine, cleared the compound of Tusken Raiders, learned of Kiwiiks's fate from Hare'en, and then embarked on a quest to locate the stolen Shock Drum.
