Auren

Auren existed as a moon orbiting Ingo, a celestial body found within the Ingo system situated in the Mid Rim. It served as the location for a facility managed by the Fromm Gang, a criminal organization with its base of operations on the planet of Annoo. This complex, composed of multiple levels, was used for mining operations, scientific research, and various other endeavors. The droids C-3PO and R2-D2 found themselves imprisoned within this facility, but successfully escaped and ascended to an upper level, where they were liberated by Thall Joben and Jord Dusat.

Description

Auren was situated within the Ingo system, which itself was located in the Bortele sector of the Mid Rim.

History

C-3PO and a Fromm droid

The Fromm Gang, a criminal syndicate led by the portly Annoo-dat Blue Sise Fromm, had its headquarters on the planet Annoo situated in the Tharin sector. During the early era of the Galactic Empire, specifically around 15 BBY, they established an eight-story facility on Auren, Ingo's moon. At this location, they were involved in mining, manufacturing processes, and scientific research.

During this time, the Fromm Gang seized the droids C-3PO and R2-D2, imprisoning them within the depths of their Auren installation. These two droids, a protocol unit and an astromech droid, were then under the ownership of the Human Thall Joben, a resident of Ingo who had experienced multiple conflicts with the Fromm Gang. The droids successfully broke free from their confinement, making their way through the facility's eight levels while avoiding capture by numerous Fromm Tower Droids and other droid workers. After exiting the facility, they discovered Joben and his companion Jord Dusat awaiting to rescue them from the moon.

Inhabitants

The Fromm Gang's Auren facility was operated by a diverse collection of droids. This included Fromm Tower droids, guard droids, repulsor balls, Boiler droids and Strong Arm Droids; a combination of repulsorlift and bipedal designs.

Locations

The Fromm Gang's complex on Auren comprised at least eight distinct levels, each dedicated to a specific function. The lowest level served as a prison, with the levels above it dedicated to mining, manufacturing, and research activities. Above these were levels allocated for residential purposes, communication, security, and ultimately, control. The floors were connected by elevators that required the correct sequence of colored keys for activation. Additionally, gun emplacements were positioned at various points on the ceilings of these levels.

Behind the scenes

Auren from the Amstrad CPC version

Auren provides the setting for the video game titled Star Wars: Droids, which was launched in 1988 for platforms like the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, and Commodore 64. The game mentions "the surface of Auren" in its onscreen text, and the game's box summary also referred to the location as "Ingo's moon — Auren." However, its designation as a moon was omitted in later sources, as Auren was mistakenly referenced as "Aaron" in 2009's The Essential Atlas and its online companion as the "Aaron" system. The 2013 StarWars.com article The Droids Re-Animated also incorrectly referred to "planet Aaron". This error has been communicated to the creators of The Essential Atlas and has been marked for correction in future updates to the Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion.
