Bala Waleen, a Twi'lek spicerunner and trader, orchestrated an insurrection during the High Republic Era. This led to him seizing control of the Ryloth colony planet Aaloth. He was romantically involved with Lourna Dee, whose father, Yudiah Dee, had been the Keeper of Aaloth before Bala's power grab.
Waleen plotted with Lourna to overthrow her father from his position as Keeper of the world, resulting in a mob of starving people attacking the family's palace. Waleen then double-crossed Lourna, selling her into slavery with the Zygerrian Alliance and ordering the execution of the rest of her family.
Later, Dee exacted her vengeance by killing Bala during a raid on Aaloth.
Bala Waleen's character was featured in flashback sequences within the 2021 audio drama The High Republic: Tempest Runner, penned by Cavan Scott and brought to life by a complete cast of voice actors. Sullivan Jones provided the voice for Bala in this audio production.
