Battle of Artus Prime

The Empire Reborn's military forces seized control of the Artus Prime planetary mining colony. The mine, which primarily exported Force-sensitive Artusian crystals, was a strategically important objective for the Shadowtrooper initiative. The miners were subsequently imprisoned and used as experimental subjects in connection with the Force crystal research.

Following the inquiry at Kejim Outpost, Mon Mothma dispatched the mercenary duo of Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors to Artus Prime. Their mission was to infiltrate the enemy-held territory and verify the extraction of Artusian crystals. They found themselves facing a substantial Imperial force of approximately 230 soldiers, along with three ATSTs and TIE/LN starfighters.

Katarn gained entry to the facility and, engaging in combat with the occupying forces, liberated the imprisoned miners from their confinement. These miners then armed themselves and attempted to break free. However, their escape was thwarted by the closure of the main gate, which was defended by three AT-ST walkers. One was positioned in the canyon, another on the upper level near the main gate, and the third in a hangar at the far end of the canyon. Utilizing the base's turbolasers, Katarn successfully destroyed the walkers. Subsequently, he deactivated the powerful shields protecting the ion cannons, and then proceeded to use the turbolasers to eliminate the ion cannons, thereby enabling the New Republic fleet to enter the system.

With the destruction of the ion cannons, Jan Ors successfully landed the Raven's Claw on the colony. Simultaneously, the Republic deployed an evacuation transport to extract the prisoners. Upon landing, Ors was taken captive by the Dark Jedi Desann. Sensing that something was amiss, Katarn fought his way to the landing pad, only to discover that it was a trap orchestrated for him. After Tavion, Desann's apprentice, had secured Ors and brought her aboard Desann's shuttle, an enraged Katarn confronted Desann. However, lacking a lightsaber and a connection to the Force, he was easily overcome. Desann lifted Katarn off the ground and mocked him, and Katarn threatened Desann when he suggested that Ors would hold up to experiments better than the Artus Prime colonists. Upon hearing these words, Desann ordered Tavion to kill Ors. Katarn heard Ors's scream as Tavion appeared to kill Ors, bringing out Katarn's rage. Desann threw him aside and fled with Tavion in his shuttle.

Incited by Desann's taunt regarding his diminished power, Katarn journeyed to the Valley of the Jedi to regain his Force abilities, unaware that the Dark Jedi were secretly tracking him. Following a bombardment, the Republic fleet retook the mining colony.
