The initial canonically mention of the Battrach occurred in the tenth issue of the comic series Star Wars: The High Republic, which was authored by Cavan Scott and featured illustrations by Georges Jeanty. This comic was a component of the multimedia project of the same name and was released on October 20, 2021. The Battrach originally appeared within the Star Wars Legends continuity through the unofficial role-playing adventure titled "Flight of the Jedi," published across the nineteenth and twentieth editions of Valkyrie magazine. Within that adventure, they were described as a species of genetically engineered amphibian beings.
