Beauty of Yevetha

Known as the Beauty of Yevetha, this corvette was seized by the Duskhan League from the Galactic Empire's Black Sword Command around 4 ABY. Nil Spaar then utilized the vessel to explore the Koornacht Cluster, and it later became part of the Yevethan fleet.

Distinguishing Features

The Beauty was considered a small capital ship. On the hull's underside, airlock doors concealed a tight docking berth, intended for a pinnace, yet also capable of housing a small starfighter, for example, a Recon-X. A tractor beam drew ships toward the bay, while mechanical clamps engaged at close range to secure them within.

Historical Information

The original designation of this Imperial corvette is not known, and the reasons behind its capture by the Yevetha remain unclear. It's believed the ship was taken intact from one of the twelve Duskhan League systems when the Imperial forces were defeated in 4 ABY, similarly to how the larger Star Destroyers Intimidator and Valorous were acquired.

After being renamed the Beauty of Yevetha, this ship was likely the first with a hyperdrive actively used by the Yevetha. Nil Spaar assumed command, using it to scout nearby systems with a crew including his loyal second, Dar Bille. The Yevetha were disturbed to find that the Empire had permitted other sentient species to settle in the outer reaches of the Koornacht Cluster, territory they considered exclusively theirs.

Later, the Beauty served in the Black Eleven Fleet at Doornik-1142, but following the Yevethan Purge, it was stationed in the N'zoth system. Ultimately, it was destroyed during the New Republic's survey of the Koornacht Cluster by Lieutenant Rone Taggar of the 21st Recon Group.

During a flyover of N'zoth, the pilot's personal X-wing recon fighter was crippled by an ion cannon blast from the Pride of Yevetha, and the Beauty was tasked with capturing him.

After being ensnared by the corvette's tractor beam, Taggar initiated standard procedures, wiping his computers and detonating his astromech. However, he sacrificed himself by delaying the starfighter's self-destruction until it was pulled into a hangar bay, ensuring the corvette's destruction. The resulting explosion tore through the Beauty of Yevetha's keel, leading to a larger explosion that obliterated the ship and its entire crew.

Nil Spaar, by then the ruling viceroy of his people, was enraged by the loss of his former command. Kol Attan, the Yevethan proctor of defense, was blamed for not anticipating Taggar's actions, declared to-mara, and ordered to seek a dishonorable death.

Additional Information

The Beauty of Yevetha is initially mentioned in Before the Storm, the first novel of the Black Fleet Crisis trilogy by Michael P. Kube-McDowell, when Nil Spaar and Dar Bille remember their time on the old corvette. The ship appears in a brief action sequence in the trilogy's second novel, Shield of Lies.

When the novels were written, the term "corvette" was strongly linked to the blockade runner design from Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, but the mention of a docking berth on the hull's underside may suggest a different type of ship was intended.

Some fans have questioned the classification of the Beauty of Yevetha as a corvette, given that the Black Fleet trilogy describes the Yevetha acquiring their Imperial designs from Black Sword Command, and Before the Storm states that the list of forty-four missing ships from this fleet included nothing smaller than a 900m Victory-class star destroyer.

However, the novel clarifies that this information reflected the situation almost a year before the uprising where the Yevetha seized their ex-Imperial warships and shipyards. It also states that over half the listed vessels were expected to be rotated out of the yards by that time, implying replacements would have been brought in. Further supporting this, the ships captured by the Yevetha included at least one Immobilizer 418 cruiser and seemingly multiple Dreadnaught Cruisers, all measuring only 600m long. Therefore, Canon material doesn't establish a definitive lower size limit for the Beauty of Yevetha.

The statement that the Beauty of Yevetha was part of the Black Eleven Fleet doesn't appear in the Black Fleet novels, but originates from the 1998 Star Wars Encyclopedia. This source also claims the corvette was destroyed during the failed blockade of Doornik-319, a somewhat loose description of events occurring after the blockade's failure, during a deep reconnaissance mission of a different system. Both statements were repeated in The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia a decade later.
