The only city on the frigid planet Thelj, a world of ice, was Bhatiqu. The city was sheltered by a dome and existed within a temperate region established by the initial colonists. Thelj, once considered as a possible colony by the Galactic Republic around 682 BBY, experienced a rapid freeze following the abrupt failure of its star. The vast majority of those unable to evacuate were killed. Later, Bhatiqu, along with other settlements, were rendered livable when scientists pioneered a technique to harness Thelj's core, generating heated air vents via atmospheric generators to form these temperate areas. The Graf family compound was situated in proximity to Bhatiqu around 382 BBY.
Bhatiqu was featured in the 2022 young adult book The High Republic: Path of Deceit, which was penned by Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic cross-media initiative.
