Unidentified black-mustachioed Sanyassan
A member of the Sanyassan pirates known as the Marauders, who found themselves stranded on Endor's forest moon following a crash landing ninety-six years prior to the Battle of Yavin, was a male Sanyassan sporting a black mustache. This pirate resided within the Marauders' Stronghold alongside his fellow crew, all under the command of their King, Terak. The Sanyassan Marauders, as a group, habitually victimized the Ewoks, Endor's more peaceful inhabitants.
By 3.5 ABY, the mustachioed Sanyassan was stationed in the Stronghold's dungeons, alongside an elderly colleague. Their shared duty was guarding detainees when Wicket Warrick, an Ewok, and his allies arrived to liberate their friend, Cindel Towani, a Human female imprisoned under King Terak's orders. The intruders, aided by the swift being Teek, instigated a dispute between the guards, leading them to shoot each other with their blasters and collapse.
Biography
A male Sanyassan with a black mustache and hair became a Marauders member by 96 BBY. This group of pirates traveled from their homeworld, Sanyassa IV, to the Endor system aboard a hijacked spacecraft. Their vessel crashed on the forest moon of Endor, a place where many interstellar travelers had become marooned due to peculiar stellar phenomena. For decades, the Marauders operated as a military unit, spreading fear among the native Ewok species of the forest moon. Their leader was the self-proclaimed King Terak, a cruel warlord.
Years later, specifically in 3.5 ABY, the mustachioed Sanyassan worked alongside the older Marauder prison warden in guarding Terak's prisoners—a group consisting of Ewoks and a young Human girl named Cindel Towani. To alleviate boredom during their watch, the two Sanyassans engaged in card games, using metallic scraps as currency. Unbeknownst to these card players, a rescue party, including the Human hermit Noa Briqualon, his ally Teek, and the Ewok Wicket Warrick, infiltrated the castle with the intent of freeing the prisoners.

Teek, known for the extreme speed characteristic of his species, darted towards the warden with the aim of snatching the cell keys from his belt. Teek's movements were so rapid that the mustachioed Marauder remained oblivious, allowing the game to continue uninterrupted. During the next round, the old warden emerged victorious, but a card inadvertently slipped from his sleeve. The Marauder with the black mustache became convinced that his opponent had cheated, prompting him to rise and confront the warden. Tensions escalated, culminating in both individuals drawing and firing their [blasters](/article/blaster-legends] simultaneously in a fit of rage. Both sustained injuries and collapsed. In reality, Teek had strategically placed the card in the warden's sleeve to instigate a quarrel between the two Sanyassans. The mustachioed Sanyassan and his partner remained incapacitated, facilitating the successful rescue of the prisoners.
Personality and traits
According to Wicket and Noa Briqualon, friends of Cindel Towani, this particular card player was among the most menacing and unattractive Marauders they had ever encountered. He possessed thick, greasy strands of black hair on his face, along with a cleft chin and an underbite. He also sported a lengthy mustache with vertical extensions that grew down the sides of his mouth.
The dark-haired Marauder was prone to a quick temper, a trait common among his species. Upon suspecting his opponent of cheating, he immediately voiced his accusations and prepared for a fight. As the argument escalated into a brawl, he confronted the warden with his blaster drawn.
Behind the scenes

This Marauder, distinguished by his black mustache, played a minor role in the 1985 made-for-television film, Ewoks: The Battle for Endor. While Michael Pritchard and Johnny Weissmuller Jr. portrayed the two card players, their roles were only credited as "Card Player #1" and "Card Player #2."
The film leaves the severity of the Sanyassan's blaster wound ambiguous. However, the children's book adaptation, The Ring, the Witch, and the Crystal: An Ewok Adventure, suggests that he merely "collapsed on the floor." Sanyassans are known to have more resilient hides than Humans. In the movie, the card-playing Marauders communicated in their native language, without subtitles, but portions of their dialogue were translated into Galactic Basic Standard in the children's book.
The physical appearance of this dark-haired Sanyassan bears resemblance to the "Marauder of Endor," a criminal featured on a wanted poster in the 1993 book, Monsters and Aliens from George Lucas. Both characters share similar features, including black forelocks, "mushrooms lining eyebrows," a cleft chin, a horseshoe mustache, and an underbite. Furthermore, the unidentified criminal was also described as a "known associate of Terak." Even if the "Marauder of Endor" was intended to be the card-playing Marauder, the book in which he appeared has been deemed non-canonical by Lucasfilm official Leland Chee, the keeper of the Holocron continuity database.
