Caleb, a male Human healer, made his home on the deserted world of Ambria. In 990 BBY, Darth Zannah brought about his death.
During the waning years of the New Sith Wars, Caleb chose to distance himself from the conflict, seeking refuge on the planet of Ambria. He rejected the advances of both the Jedi and the Sith, considering himself a neutral party dedicated to healing the common folk.
His strict policy of neutrality faced a challenge when Darth Bane, an exiled Sith Lord, arrived at his home in 1000 BBY, seeking a remedy for the synox poison inflicted upon him by his former lover, Githany. Initially, Caleb refused to provide treatment, even going so far as to plunge his hand into a boiling cauldron to demonstrate his indifference to pain. This was meant to show he would be immune to any torture the Sith Lord had planned; they would have no power over him since he accepted his fate. Bane grew frustrated by the healer's apparent invulnerability to fear. However, Bane detected the presence of Caleb's daughter nearby. When Bane threatened to take her life, Caleb relented and agreed to heal him. Sensing Caleb's potential usefulness, Bane spared his life.

In 990 BBY, Darth Zannah sought out Caleb, but he refused to heal the mortally wounded Darth Bane. Darovit struck a bargain with Caleb: he would heal Bane if Zannah surrendered herself and Bane to the Jedi and disabled their ship, the Loranda. Eventually, Zannah agreed, and after Caleb healed Bane and removed the orbalisks, he ensured that Zannah sent a message to the Jedi Order, alerting them to the presence of a Sith Lord awaiting arrest on Ambria. However, Zannah, determined to save Bane and preserve the Order of the Sith Lords, killed Caleb and drove Darovit insane using her sorcery. Subsequently, she concealed Bane and herself in one of Caleb's underground hideouts, cloaking their presence in the Force. Upon arriving, the Jedi discovered Caleb's dismembered body outside his dwelling. As they approached, Darovit attacked them and was swiftly killed. The Jedi gathered all the pieces of Caleb's corpse and returned them to Coruscant for a proper burial.
Upon their return to the Jedi Temple, the Jedi created a memorial honoring those Jedi who contributed to the Sith's downfall. The hilts of all five Jedi's lightsabers were embedded within a sizable white stone block in the gardens surrounding the base of the Tower of First Knowledge. Caleb's name was inscribed in the block to commemorate his sacrifice for the Republic. In 980 BBY, Caleb's daughter, who had become Princess Serra of Doan, noticed the name during a visit to the Temple to negotiate on behalf of her planet. Learning of her father's demise, she instructed her bodyguard, Lucia to contact the Huntress to capture Bane, whom she held responsible for her father's death.
Caleb's healing abilities were rooted in the Force, yet they differed from those of the Jedi or Sith. His power was drawn directly from the surrounding environment, the natural energy of the mountains and forests. By using the knowledge found in the Jedi Archives by Zannah, he successfully removed Bane's orbalisk armor and saved his life.
