Serra, a Human female from Ambria, possessed Force-sensitivity. She was the daughter of Caleb, a healer. In an attempt to avenge her father's death, she tried to assassinate Darth Bane, the Dark Lord of the Sith, but was ultimately killed by Darth Cognus.
Back in 1000 BBY, Darth Bane, afflicted by synox poisoning, sought out Caleb for a cure. Initially, Caleb refused to provide aid, but when Bane threatened his daughter's life by using the Force to levitate her above a scalding pot, he gave in and healed the Sith Lord.
In 992 BBY, Caleb, fearing for his daughter's safety, compelled his sixteen-year-old daughter to adopt a new identity and relocate to a different planet to shield her from any future threats from Bane.
When Darth Zannah, Bane's apprentice, sought Caleb's help in 990 BBY to save her Master's life following a duel on Tython, Caleb revealed that his daughter had moved away, preventing Zannah from using her as leverage as Bane once did. Despite this, Zannah managed to strike a deal with Caleb to heal Bane, before eliminating the healer and evading the team of Jedi that had come in search of them.
After departing Ambria, Caleb's daughter assumed the name Serra and started utilizing her healing talents across the galaxy. After she saved Lucia's life, the former member of the Gloom Walkers became Serra's bodyguard. Serra later encountered Prince Gerran of the Doan Royal House, who was suffering from an ailment. Serra cared for him and restored his health. As time passed, their affection for each other grew, and Gerran asked Serra to marry him. Despite Gerran's father being against their union, she accepted, which made her the Princess of Doan.

During the time after the New Sith Wars, the Doan Royal House found itself in a conflict with the planet's mining caste. In 980 BBY, Gerran was accidentally killed by the miners, an event that plunged Serra into a state of profound despair. In an attempt to ease Serra's suffering, Lucia orchestrated the assassination of Gelba, a leader within the mining caste; however, a Jedi Knight named Medd Tandar also lost his life in the attack. Serra journeyed to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant to assure the Jedi that the Doan Royal House was not responsible for the assassination. While at the Jedi Temple, Master Obba showed Serra a monument that paid tribute to the five Jedi who perished on Tython, as well as Caleb. Discovering that her father had died, Serra vowed revenge and hired the Huntress—the same assassin Lucia had employed to eliminate Gelba—to capture Bane, whom she believed was responsible for her father's death, marking her initial descent toward the dark side.
The Huntress captured Darth Bane with the help of about twenty mercenaries supplied by Serra. Bane was then taken to the Stone Prison on Doan, where Serra, now deeply consumed by the Dark Side, tortured and interrogated him while keeping him drugged to prevent his escape. She discovered that he denied killing her father. Lucia, horrified by the vengeful person Serra had become—and remembering the many times that Bane had saved her life as a member of the Gloom Walkers—decided to set Bane free. Simultaneously, Zannah and her new apprentice, Set Harth, arrived on Doan to rescue Bane from Serra, as Zannah needed to personally defeat her master to become the next Dark Lord of the Sith. Zannah found out that Bane had been freed and attacked him in the Prison. Serra, seeking to kill both Sith, initiated the self-destruct sequence for the prison before escaping with Lucia's corpse, who had been killed by Zannah. Bane and Zannah's duel concluded in a stalemate, and they both escaped the collapsing prison. As he fled, Bane encountered the Huntress, who submitted to his teachings and adopted the name Darth Cognus.
Serra went back to her home on Ambria, where she came to the realization that her father would not have wanted her to become the vengeful person she was and she let go of the Dark Side and her anger. She buried Lucia outside father's hut. However, Bane and Cognus arrived shortly after; Cognus had tracked Serra there through the Force. Serra declined Bane's offer to serve him as a healer and tried to convince Cognus that the dark side would destroy her. However, Cognus only asked for Bane's permission to kill Serra. Bane then ordered Cognus to bury the body, not out of respect, but simply to keep scavengers away.
Serra, just like her father, possessed a kind heart and sought to use her healing abilities to assist others. She was even willing to heal Lucia after she threatened her with a blaster. She also had a strong will and could confront anyone, from Lucia and bounty hunters to Darth Bane during their final confrontation on Ambria.
However, Serra harbored a dark side that originated from the constant threat posed by the "dark man" from her past. For many years, she endured nightmares of the encounter, which disappeared when she married Gerran. However, Gerran's death unleashed the dark side of her personality, and she was prepared to do anything to exact revenge on Darth Bane.
Only after Lucia's death did she recognize the futility of her desire for revenge. The loss of someone who was like a mother to her extinguished her fury. Serra sacrificed her life to try and end Darth Bane's Sith Order by trying to get Darth Cognus back to the light. She failed, but this was a final act of goodness to try and redeem herself from her crimes.
