During the Great Galactic War, specifically in 3668 BBY, a joint operation was launched by the Jedi Order and the Republic Special Forces Division. The Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire were at war, and the purpose of this operation was to put an end to the activities of the Dread Masters. These six ancient Sith Lords were utilizing the dark side of the Force to instill terror within Republic naval fleets. The power of the Dread Masters resided in their mastery of Sith magic, which they employed to induce intense fear in enemy vessels from afar, causing panic among the crews and significantly hindering the Republic's war efforts. Despite attempts to conceal their presence on a Harrower-class dreadnought, the Republic Strategic Information Service managed to intercept Imperial communications, revealing the identity and location of the Dread Masters. This intelligence allowed Jedi Knight Jaric Kaedan and a team from the Republic Special Forces to devise a plan to strike against them. The mission achieved its objective, resulting in the capture of all six Sith Lords and the Republic's acquisition of a highly sensitive Imperial database. Although their dreadnaught was destroyed in the process, the Dread Masters were transported alive to The Tomb, a high-security section within the Republic's secret prison located on Belsavis in the Outer Rim Territories.
