Jaric Kaedan, a male Human Jedi Master, dedicated his life to the service of the Jedi Order and the Galactic Republic during the Great Galactic War. This conflict pitted them against the re-emerging Sith Empire. Often referred to as the Order's Watchman, Kaedan's journey began in the Outer Rim Territories some years prior to the war. At the age of twelve, he was inducted into the Jedi Order for training, eventually becoming a Jedi Knight under the guidance of Ngani Zho. Throughout the war, Kaedan fought bravely across the galaxy, playing a crucial role in the capture of the Sith Lords known as the Dread Masters in 3668 BBY. As a Jedi Master, he also participated in the Battle of Rhen Var near the war's conclusion. Following the Treaty of Coruscant, which ended the war in 3653 BBY, Kaedan was appointed to the esteemed Jedi High Council during the subsequent Cold War. He accompanied the Order to their rediscovered homeworld, Tython. He trained a Sullustan Padawan named Nae Nuuv to Knighthood. Kaedan remained vigilant against the Sith threat, and in 3640 BBY, after the Galactic War erupted, he joined the Republic Military to fight the Empire on Ilum. Leading an effort to retake the Jedi's Ilum Temple on their sacred planet, Kaedan met his end during the Battle of Ilum, falling victim to a Sith strike team.
Jaric Kaedan, a Force-sensitive male Human, was born in the Outer Rim Territories prior to 3691 BBY. The Jedi Order discovered him at age twelve, and he began training in the Force under Jedi Master Ngani Zho. He achieved the rank of Jedi Knight during the Great Galactic War between the Sith Empire and the Galactic Republic. In 3668 BBY, Kaedan spearheaded a Republic Special Forces Division mission to capture the six Sith Lords known as the Dread Masters. Kaedan and his team infiltrated the dreadnought, successfully engaging and defeating the Dread Masters, resisting their attempts to manipulate fear through battle meditation. Before destroying the dreadnought, Kaedan downloaded its complete Imperial database, providing valuable intelligence to the Republic and misleading the Empire into believing the Dread Masters were killed in the operation. After becoming a Knight, Kaedan encountered the Cult of M'dweshuu, a violent religious group of the Nikto species, and Master Zho rescued him. However, Kaedan became resentful towards Zho because of the encounter, and he had not spoken to his former Master by the time of Zho's death in 3643 BBY.

As the war approached its thirtieth year, Kaedan was dispatched to the planet Rhen Var alongside Satele Shan, Syo Bakarn, and Bela Kiwiiks, all former apprentices of Master Zho. By this time, Kaedan had mastered "Juyo-Kos," a variant of the seventh form of lightsaber combat, and was regarded as a living weapon guided by the Force. The four Jedi discovered the Republic Military's Forty-fifth Battalion in a state of chaos following a devastating Imperial invasion. Kaedan discussed strategy with Kiwiiks and Shan while Bakarn healed wounded soldiers. He dismissed Kiwiiks' apparent fear, asserting that the Jedi could easily defend the pass, but Shan disagreed. Under Shan's leadership, the Jedi and surviving Republic troopers launched a fierce counterattack, with Kaedan using his twin green lightsabers to cut down numerous enemy soldiers and Sith. During the conflict, Kaedan saved Bakarn from a Sith attacker by pushing him aside and intercepting the enemy's blade. The battle concluded with Shan defeating Darth Mekhis, the Sith commander on Rhen Var and a member of the Empire's ruling Dark Council, in a duel within the Sith's fortress. The war soon ended with the signing of the Treaty of Coruscant in 3653 BBY, which forced the Republic to concede to the Empire's demands and withdraw its forces following the Imperial invasion of the capital world Coruscant.
During the subsequent Cold War, Kaedan achieved the rank of Jedi Master and was appointed to the Jedi High Council along with Bakarn, Shan, Kiwiiks, Orgus Din, and another Jedi, as six Council members had perished during the Sacking of Coruscant.
Later, as Tol Braga's team, including himself, Leeha Narezz, Warren Sedoru, and the Hero of Tython, prepared to depart for the Emperor's concealed space station to capture and redeem him, the Jedi Council and Jedi Knight Jomar Chul intervened. Kaedan voiced his doubts about Braga's plan, but Chul presented a more alarming revelation. Chul explained that he foresaw the Hero succumbing to the dark side and becoming Sith, insisting on taking the Hero's place on the mission. However, Satele and Kiwiiks affirmed their confidence in the Hero's loyalty and approved the mission, much to Chul's frustration, leading him to leave the Council chamber in anger. Kaedan made a final plea to Braga to reconsider, but Braga remained convinced of his plan's success.
Soon after, the Council lost contact with Braga's team until the Hero returned, reporting the mission's failure. The Hero explained that the Emperor had overpowered the team and brought them under his control. However, Lord Scourge, the Emperor's Wrath, aided the Hero and company in their escape. Kaedan expressed distrust, arguing that Sith are inherently selfish. Scourge explained that his change in allegiance was to prevent the Emperor from destroying the galaxy. Three centuries prior, he had foreseen the Emperor performing a dark side ritual that would consume all life in the galaxy, but the Hero would be the one to stop him. The ritual required billions of simultaneous deaths, which would occur on Belsavis, urging them to act swiftly to save the planet. Kaedan remained suspicious of the Sith's motives, even threatening Scourge with his lightsaber. Scourge insisted that he possessed unparalleled knowledge of the Emperor and would be more valuable to them free with the Jedi; he believed he could defeat the Emperor. Satele Shan sensed the truth in his words and agreed to an alliance.

During the Battle for Ilum, Jedi Master Jaric Kaedan commanded a Republic ground assault team tasked with disrupting the Empire's Adegan crystal mining operations. Grand Moff Ilyan Regus tasked Sith forces on the planet with eliminating Jaric Kaedan (operation "First Strike"). The mission succeeded, resulting in the death of the renowned Jedi at the hands of the Sith.
Master Jaric Kaedan was a demanding mentor, driven by the belief that his teachings could save his students' lives. He believed that the greatest dangers to a Jedi came from within, encouraging his students to master themselves before their lightsaber. The Sith knew him as a formidable adversary. He firmly believed that galactic peace was unattainable as long as the re-emerging Sith Empire existed. However, he also displayed paranoia and fear. When the Barsen'thor recruited an army on Voss, he tried to dissuade them with fearful warnings about their Force abilities and rejected a Mystic's proposal to have more Jedi train on Voss. He was also quick to criticize and judge others, including fellow council members like Yuon Par and Kira Carsen. However, he gracefully admitted when he was wrong, as demonstrated by his acceptance of Carsen after she overcame the Emperor's will in battle. He also held Lord Scourge in deep contempt, even threatening him with a lightsaber.
Kaedan was skilled in both the Force and lightsaber combat, mastering Juyo-Kos, the seventh combat form. In battle, Kaedan became a living weapon of the Force. Even as a Jedi Knight, he resisted the Dread Masters' fear-inducing influence to capture the six Sith Lords.
