Emperor's Wrath

The title of Empire's Wrath, initially called the Emperor's Wrath, was a position established by the Emperor of the re-established Sith Empire. The role demanded that an individual function as the Emperor's direct enforcer and executioner, receiving orders solely from him and reporting only to him. In contrast to the Emperor's other servants, who were bound by a dark side ritual, the Wrath underwent a different ritual, granting complete independence, as the Emperor desired his Wrath to unleash their full power.

Scourge, a Sith Lord who supposedly demonstrated his loyalty by delivering Jedi Masters Revan and Meetra Surik to his master for destruction, was the first to hold this position. Three centuries later, the title was bestowed upon the former apprentice of Darth Baras.

After the Emperor's resurrection on Yavin 4 and the revelation of his plans to consume all life in the galaxy, especially that he would save his Wrath for last, Darth Marr renamed the Wrath as the Empire's Wrath.

History

The position of Emperor's Wrath was first created by the Sith Emperor for Lord Scourge, a Sith Lord who originally intended to overthrow the Emperor. Scourge allied himself with two Jedi seeking to protect the Republic from the Sith Empire: Meetra Surik, and the redeemed Jedi Master Revan.

The Emperor dispatched Scourge to assist Darth Nyriss, a powerful female Dark Lord and one of the twelve members of the Dark Council, the Emperor's personal Sith advisors. Nyriss had recently been attacked by separatist forces, according to Scourge's understanding. Nyriss informed Scourge shortly after that the leader of these forces was a human Dark Lord named Darth Xedrix. Scourge was ordered to assassinate the aging Sith, which he did. Scourge then discovered that Nyriss was also involved in the separatist conspiracy, plotting to depose the Sith Emperor. Nyriss transported Scourge to Nathema, where he witnessed the insanity of their liege. Scourge discovered that the Emperor was planning an attack on the Republic and its Jedi protectors. Scourge, realizing that this would mean the end of the Empire, joined forces with Nyriss to bring down the Emperor.

Revan had been held captive by Scourge and Nyriss for three years, and the separatists had made no attempts to destroy the Emperor. Scourge eventually grew tired of waiting and the conspirators' apparent weakness, so he devised his own plans. Meetra Surik, who had been looking for Revan, arranged a meeting with Scourge to demand Revan's release. Revan had formed a small bond with the Sith Lord during his captivity, planting seeds of doubt in his mind. Meetra, with sufficient evidence, agreed to join forces with Scourge to free Revan from prison. Scourge persuaded the Emperor that he had unknowingly committed treasonous acts on Nyriss' behalf, and the Imperial Guard attacked her stronghold. While the attack was underway, Scourge and Meetra infiltrated the stronghold and freed Revan from his cell. Before they could flee, the three of them had to kill Darth Nyriss.

Revan, Meetra, Scourge, and T3-M4 infiltrated the Emperor's citadel after careful planning, intending to kill him once and for all. Scourge had a vision of the Emperor's death at the hands of an unknown Jedi Knight after a fierce duel, primarily between Revan and the Emperor. This Jedi, however, was neither Revan nor Meetra. Scourge acted on this vision by murdering Meetra, allowing the Emperor to overpower Revan. Scourge quickly persuaded the Emperor that the two Jedi were part of a plot to overthrow the Empire and that he had brought them there to be destroyed. The Emperor created a position higher than even a Dark Lord on the Council as a reward for his apparent loyalty: Emperor's Wrath. Scourge underwent an excruciating process that made him immortal like the Emperor, but his pain would be eternal.

During the Cold War, Darth Baras attempted to exploit the Emperor's absence while he was preoccupied with mysterious goals by posing as his Voice. With Lord Scourge having abandoned his post, the Emperor's Hands searched the Empire for a worthy Sith to take his place. They chose Baras' former apprentice, whom Baras attempted to assassinate, to be the Emperor's new Wrath. The new Wrath took on the mission of dethroning Baras and avenging his betrayal. The Dark Council formally recognized the new Wrath after defeating Baras.

The new Emperor's Wrath quickly secured significant victories for the Sith Empire by defeating Darth Malgus when he claimed the title of Emperor of his new Empire, and then, at Darth Marr's request, traveled to Oricon to defeat the rogue Dread Masters. The Emperor's Wrath was then involved in the Revanite Conspiracy and led the attack on Tython and later the reclamation of Korriban.

During the Revan threat, Dark Council member Darth Vowrawn contacted the Emperor's Wrath, alerting them to the Opticron Droids that were spying on them. After dealing with the droids, the Wrath was greeted by Servant One who claimed that the Wrath was more loyal to the Empire than the Emperor. Tired of their ramblings, the Wrath severed their ties with the Sith Emperor unless he came in person.

Following Revan's end on Yavin 4, the Sith Emperor was revived and informed the Wrath that they were still precious to him, so they would be the last of the Emperor's kills. The Emperor's Wrath then formally renounced the Emperor, prompting Darth Marr to acknowledge the Wrath's power, contributions, and loyalty to the Empire by reappointing them as the Empire's Wrath. At Darth Marr's direction, the new de facto leader of the Sith Empire, the Wrath retained their previous power within the Empire.

The title of Emperor's Wrath officially disappeared, along with the titles of Emperor's Hands, Voice of the Emperor, and Children of the Emperor, when Vitiate renounced the Sith Order and the Empire and ruled as Valkorion, Emperor of the Eternal Empire.
