Challenge of the Body

The Challenge of the Body represented one of the three trials that an Alderaanian successor was required to complete in order to demonstrate their eligibility for formal recognition as the successor to the Alderaanian throne. These trials, including the challenges of the Mind and Heart, were revealed at the successor's Day of Demand. Traditionally, the successor would undertake a solo climb of Appenza Peak, a well-known mountain that could be seen from the capital city of Aldera, although they had the option of bringing one companion. When she was in line to inherit the Alderaanian throne, Breha Organa suffered serious injuries in a fall while undertaking her Challenge of the Body. The royal guards, who were watching from afar, intervened and saved her from death. As a result, her heart and lungs were replaced with cybernetic pulmonodes. For her own Challenge of the Body, Breha's daughter, Leia Organa, requested that her mother join her on the ascent.

Years afterward, while on the planet Madurs during her honeymoon, Leia recalled her mother's accident. Leia realized that increased fame would lead to increased scrutiny, with people seeking out and exploiting her weaknesses to undermine her reputation.
