Charza Kwinn

Charza Kwinn, a celebrated male Priapulin pilot, served the Jedi Order for a period exceeding a century.

Biography

Charza Kwinn, a male Priapulin, functioned as a starship pilot. By the year 129 BBY, he had become an ally to the Jedi Order, frequently transporting Jedi in need to various planets and locations requiring their aid. In 30 BBY, Kwinn conveyed the renegade Jedi Knight Vergere aboard his YT-1150 named the Star Sea Flower to the sentient planet Zonama Sekot; upon instruction, Kwinn departed the world, receiving no directive to retrieve Vergere. As he departed, he observed six vessels in orbit, which he presumed to be Sekotan Personal Starships. A year later, Kwinn transported two more Jedi, Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, to Zonama Sekot. After their disembarkation near the planet's north pole, he maintained orbit, avoiding contact with the Jedi pair. However, the planet soon came under attack by Wilhuff Tarkin, a Commander in the Republic Outland Regions Security Force, who sought to exploit the planet's unique properties for the benefit of the Galactic Republic. Kwinn took part in the battle, defending Zenoma Sekot and engaging a Corellian Engineering Corporation light cruiser.

In 19 BBY, following the establishment of High Human Culture under the Galactic Empire, Kwinn was compelled to turn to piracy and smuggling to sustain both himself and his food-kin, whom he both consumed and provided for. Piloting the Coral Fin, he restricted his targets to Imperial ships.

His actions served as an inspiration to his people, who assisted the persecuted New Jedi Order during the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Personality and traits

The Jedi he transported considered Kwinn to be highly intelligent, possessing a sense of humor that humans often struggled to grasp. Though a pacifist by nature, he found amusement in observing aggressive competition among other species. He maintained a symbiotic bond with the Crast, referring to them as food-kin. His species utilized the Crast as a food source, while in return, they incubated and cared for their young. Beyond the typical Priapulin-Crast relationship, he also supplied his food-kin on the Star Sea Flower with sustenance and shelter, in exchange for their service as the ship's crew.

He also possessed exceptional piloting skills, capable of evading even Sky mines, as well as Droid Starfighters. He attributed a portion of his aerial prowess to the Sea Star Flower, whom he considered a friend.

Behind the scenes

Kwinn made his debut in the novel Rogue Planet penned by Greg Bear. Subsequently, he received mentions in various reference publications. Within the "Coral Fin" entry of The Complete Star Wars Encyclopedia, he is erroneously identified as a Jedi Knight.
