The Chiss Star Destroyer, a vessel of approximately one kilometer in length, functioned as a capital ship for the Chiss Ascendancy's military forces. Its initial sighting occurred around 35 ABY during the Chiss's armed clashes with the Killik Colony.
These Chiss Star Destroyer models bore a resemblance to the Victory-class Star Destroyer designs (900m) still in use by the Galactic Federation of Free Alliances. However, their grey-colored hulls had a slightly increased length and a more streamlined shape, resulting in a more menacing, needle-like visual.
A notable difference from most Star Destroyers was the absence of any obvious command structure, seemingly to reduce the likelihood of attackers easily identifying and targeting it. The most prominent feature was a large central dome, which Alliance observers speculated housed cloaking technology. For the most part, the armored hull's surfaces were as featureless as a duracrete expanse, only broken up by embedded weapon emplacements.
Similar to many Star Destroyer designs, these Chiss capital ships possessed considerable firepower, but were also susceptible to coordinated fighter attacks. While their precise capabilities are not fully documented, these ships were equipped with Chiss-manufactured versions of the standard equipment found on typical Star Destroyers.
The primary weapons array consisted of energy-based weaponry, including both light and heavy turbolasers and the unique Chiss energy/particle megamasers. The ships also included tractor beams projectors, ray shields, and particle shields. The latter could withstand a few kamikaze dartships, but not an entire wave of them on a suicide mission.
A Chiss Star Destroyer's launch facilities incorporated capture bays for detaining suspicious vessels, as well as hangars that could support squadrons of Nssis-class Clawcraft. The precise number of troops that they carried is unknown, but it is likely that they could serve as platforms for the landing craft, AirStraekers and heavy surface equipment which Chiss fleets deployed from orbit during the Swarm War. They were also capable of entering a planetary atmosphere to support ground forces.
Information from the era of the Yuuzhan Vong War suggested that the Chiss did not possess capital ships larger than frigates at that time. This may have been incorrect, or the Chiss may have started constructing Star Destroyers at a later point.
During the conflict with the Killiks, Chiss Star Destroyers were the primary warships in the front-line fleets during major battles such as those at Qoribu and Tenupe. In the battle at Tenupe, over thirty Star Destroyers were deployed in an attempt to overwhelm Killik forces, and the command ship was named Fell Defender, under the apparent command of Jagged Fel.
