The fundamental organizational unit of the Killiks, a sentient insectoid species originating from the Unknown Regions, was known as The Colony.
Although it wasn't a conventional governmental structure in the same vein as others found across the galaxy, the Colony referred to itself as the Nest of Nests.
The Colony was established by Killik explorers who had departed from Alderaan many generations prior to the Cold War. It eventually forged an alliance with the resurgent Sith Empire due to the efforts of Oroboro Dawn Herald Vector Hyllus.
During the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Tachyon Flier, after sustaining damage while fleeing Myrkr, crash-landed on Yoggoy. Raynar Thul rescued Lomi Plo and Welk, former members of the Shadow Academy, from the wreckage, but they were near death. The Killiks present intended to let Raynar die and then give his body to the Killik larvae. As the Joining process commenced, Raynar's individual personality began to influence, and then dominate, the Killik hive mind. The Killiks then took Raynar and commenced efforts to heal him. Raynar's Force sensitivity had an impact on the Killiks, and his own values, particularly the importance of individual life, became their values. Upon his emergence, Raynar was in command of the Yoggoy nest and began to modify it to better serve the Killiks. Over time, the Yoggoy hive expanded throughout the surrounding space, both to sustain itself and to distribute the "gift" of Raynar throughout the Kind.
This transformation was not without difficulty. While Killiks were generally peaceful, like most hive-minded species, they did not value individual life. At least one opposing nest launched an attack on the Colony, but the Colony managed to survive, either by defeating or absorbing the aggressors. Furthermore, the recurring food shortages, which had never been a concern for the Killiks previously, forced them to engage in trade with other planets and species. By 35 ABY, when the Killiks were rediscovered, they were still struggling to survive. However, the Colony had expanded to encompass 375 nests, although the proportion of the total Killik population that this represented remains unknown.
The Swarm War led to the Colony's destruction. Lomi was killed, and Raynar was taken into Jedi custody. In the absence of their Force presences, the Killiks began to revert to their original state. The Killik worlds were then seeded with the Fizz nanotech discovered on Woteba, with the intention of preventing the Killiks from over-consuming their resources and rebuilding the Colony.
