Cloak of the Sith

The Cloak of the Sith represented a hyperspace route situated within the Outer Rim Territories, specifically connecting the celestial body known as Roon to the planet of Ryloth. This route, which intersected with notable hyperlanes such as the Corellian Run, the Triellus Trade Route, Mumble's Turnaround, and the Death Wind Corridor, formed one of the three crucial pathways constituting the Spice Triangle trade network. By 10 BBY, the Pyke Syndicate had established control over the underworld trade within this network. Tryphon Leo, a smuggler, had intentions to seize control of the Spice Triangle, but their life was cut short before they could realize this ambition.

Description

The hyperspace route referred to as the Cloak of the Sith served as a connection between the astronomical entity Roon and the planet Ryloth, both located in the Outer Rim Territories and the Slice regions. The route's designation is shared with the Sith, an ancient group of individuals sensitive to the Force who embraced the dark side of the Force.

The Ryloth system (as shown) was linked to the Cloak of the Sith.

The Triellus Trade Route hyperlane was crossed by the Cloak of the Sith at the Roon system, while the Corellian Run super-hyperroute was intersected at the Gaulus sector's Ryloth system. These three routes collectively established the Spice Triangle, a trade network that linked Roon, Ryloth, and the planet Tatooine. Furthermore, Mumble's Turnaround, a hyperlane frequently used by smugglers, connected with the Cloak of the Sith at both Ryloth and Roon. At Roon, the route also converged with the Death Wind Corridor.

History

The Pyke Syndicate exerted influence over the underworld trade within the Spice Triangle by 10 BBY. This was documented by Maz Kanata, a former pirate queen, in a book that eventually became known as the Smuggler's Guide. After the book was acquired by the smuggler Tryphon Leo, they formulated a plan to secure the trade network, including the Cloak of the Sith. Leo detailed their intentions within the book, incorporating a map of the Spice Triangle with the Cloak of the Sith clearly marked. However, Leo's aspirations were thwarted when they died while attempting to locate one of Kanata's mapped treasure caches to finance their endeavors.

Behind the scenes

The Cloak of the Sith made its initial appearance in the current Star Wars canon through the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Smuggler's Guide, authored by Daniel Wallace. Within the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Cloak of the Sith was portrayed as a cosmic dust cloud encompassing the planet of Roon. Its debut occurred in "Tail of the Roon Comets," the tenth installment of the animated television series Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3PO, which was broadcast on November 7, 1985.
