The governing body known as the Corellian Council held power over the world of Corellia throughout both the Cold War and the Galactic War. This representative body, chosen through elections, spoke for the primary population centers of the planet and was headed by a prime minister, who gained their position via a vote by the Council itself.
Despite widespread support for the Galactic Republic among Corellian citizens, the Council sided with the newly formed reconstituted Sith Empire during the Galactic War. The Sith had, in reality, dedicated considerable time to enlisting Corellian political figures to gain influence over the Council and, ultimately, take control of the planet. Through their betrayal, the Councillors secured permanent positions for themselves.
During the Galactic Republic's counter-offensive during the Battle of Corellia in 3640 BBY, Councilor Belos, initially a proponent of Corellia's shift in allegiance, secretly assisted the Republic until their troops arrived at Capitol Square. The Council, taking refuge in the Legislature and under the protection of Darth Hadra of the Dark Council, shared details about the building's defensive systems to benefit the Empire. Following Hadra's death with the Republic's assistance, CorSec asserted their authority to detain the Council for treason. The Republic was able to reclaim Corellia due to the Council's capture.
