Corn-clusters, a food item in powdered form, necessitated the addition of water for consumption. This food was sold in compact, flat packages. Each package held a single, extended portion of brown material, alongside three smaller sections of dark turquoise material. Between the years of 28 ABY and 34 ABY, the crittermonger Bobbajo provided the scavenger Rey with three corn-clusters. This was in exchange for her assistance in recapturing a bloggin that had managed to escape its enclosure within his menagerie at Niima Outpost on the planet of Jakku.
Rey cautioned him against being discovered by Unkar Plutt, the junk boss who oversaw Niima Outpost, while distributing food. However, Bobbajo dismissed her worries, citing Plutt's recent kidnapping. During Rey's attempt to rescue Plutt from the Zendiat Collective within the nearby badlands, she was shoved by Plutt, causing her to drop the corn-clusters. Plutt seized the packets, and after scolding Rey for concealing a food supply, he flung the contents into the air. This attracted ripper-raptors that then set upon the Collective, ultimately assisting Rey and Plutt in their escape.
The initial appearance of Corn-clusters occurred within the comic narrative titled "Better the Devil You Know, Part I." This comic was made available on September 6 of 2017. The story's author was Cavan Scott, with illustrations provided by Derek Charm.
