Niima Outpost

Niima Outpost, situated on Jakku, a desert planet within the Western Reaches of the galaxy, functioned as a settlement built from scrap. This outpost owes its name and establishment to Niima the Hutt, who founded it following the Battle of Jakku to take advantage of the increased scavenging prospects resulting from the battle on the planet. While it served as the sole point for space travel on Jakku, Niima Outpost was more accurately described as a landing field. Scavengers such as Rey gathered usable materials from the technological remnants of the Battle of Jakku. While the economy was primarily based on salvage, it also included areas like black market exchanges, employed mercenaries, and various other illicit pursuits. The fuel available at Niima was fairly standard, although some scavengers were able to find military-grade resources, such as rhydonium. The outpost drew considerable off-world attention because it was the only navigational point on Jakku. Visitors from other planets were advised to secure their ships. Due to the lack of permanent buildings at the outpost, most travelers chose to sleep aboard their vessels. Unkar Plutt, the local leader, ran operations from the Concession Stand, a blockhouse with an awning roof at the center of the settlement, and scavengers brought their discoveries to him in exchange for supplies. Constable [Zuvio]'s office was also located at Niima Outpost. The main gate of the outpost featured architecture reminiscent of that found on other Hutt-controlled worlds like Teth. Sarco Plank established a shop at the outpost to modify and upgrade blasters.

The First Order attacked the outpost in their search for the astromech droid BB-8 and stormtrooper turned defector Finn.
