Publisher's summary
Back cover
The Clone Wars rage on, revealing sinister motivations and even darker fates, forcing a critical question: Do the intended results ever validate the methods employed? The Jedi are about to discover the answer.
Inside flap
The Clone Wars are in full swing across the galaxy. Led by Count Dooku, a former Jedi who is now secretly a Sith Lord, the Separatists are making steady gains, with more and more planets either succumbing to their influence or choosing to secede and join their cause. Under the guidance of Supreme Chancellor Palpatine, the Republic valiantly fights back, relying on its vast army of clone troopers and their Jedi commanders.
Some believe that Anakin Skywalker is the "Chosen One" foretold in prophecy, destined to restore balance to the Force. He is now a Jedi Knight, learning from his Jedi Master, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Death is a constant threat, and his chances of survival are further complicated by the unexpected arrival of an apprentice: Ahsoka, a spirited and inexperienced fourteen-year-old Padawan. However, Anakin has no time to question his latest orders. He and Obi-Wan have been given a new assignment, and failure is not an option.
Jabba the Hutt's young son has been abducted, and the desperate parent seeks help from the Jedi. Anakin, Obi-Wan, Ahsoka, and their clone troopers are tasked with finding clues and rescuing the missing Huttlet. The stakes are high: A grateful Jabba might grant the Republic access to the Hutt-controlled hyperspace lanes, which the Grand Army urgently needs to defeat the Separatists.
However, the Republic is not the only faction seeking access to these hyperspace lanes. Count Dooku is determined to secure them for the Separatists and has laid a trap for the Jedi. When they locate the Huttlet, they will also encounter Dooku's deadly assassin, Asajj Ventress, along with countless battle droids lying in wait.
The animated feature film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a brand-new adventure, unfolds in the years leading up to Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith, setting the stage for the groundbreaking TV series. Both the film and the series feature entirely original content, stemming directly from the brilliant mind of George Lucas, the legendary creator of Star Wars. These exciting new adventures and characters are brought to life in book form by Karen Traviss, a #1 New York Times bestselling Star Wars author.
Continuity
Star Wars: The Clone Wars has presented several challenges to established continuity.
Dating of events
According to the Star Wars Annual 2011, the story occurs during the second year of the war, as part of the revised Clone Wars timeline necessitated by the TV series. The Essential Reader's Companion adjusted the story's dating to 22 BBY.
The book's release predated the film's premiere, and it includes numerous details from earlier screenplay versions that were ultimately omitted from the final film.
CT-9932
During the Battle of Teth, after Asajj Ventress's droid forces decimate much of Torrent Company, near the conclusion of chapter 12, Captain Rex requests that the survivors report in using their comlink. He receives six responses, including those from Coric and CT-9932.
When the remaining troopers are next referenced near the end of chapter 13, there are a total of six—Rex, Coric, Zeer, Attie, Nax, and Del—and this remains consistent throughout the rest of the Teth sequence. This is further supported by Rex's observation upon regaining consciousness, noting that his helmet's HUD indicated that five of his men were still alive. This suggests that two of the six comlink responses in chapter 12 originated from the same trooper, implying that CT-9932 is the designation for either Zeer, Attie, Nax, or Del, although the novel does not explicitly link it to any specific trooper.
