Cthallops, a non-human from another planet, specifically the world known as Lanupa, frequented the Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa. Around 9 ABY, he crossed paths with the young children named Fern, Neel, Wim, and KB, as well as the pirate Jod Na Nawood and the droid SM-33, who were on a search for the hidden lair belonging to the pirate Captain Tak Rennod. Initially, Cthallops suspected that Fern might be an assassin, but he ultimately consented to help them in their quest, provided they entertained him with a tale. Wim then shared an account of the group's recent experiences on the world of At Achrann. Following this, he used brute strength to create an opening in the spa's flooring, allowing the children and their companions access to the lair.

During the New Republic era, around 9 ABY, Cthallops, an alien, was a customer at the Skull Ridge Mountain Hotel & Spa located on the planet of Lanupa. He was relaxing alone in a bathing pool within one of the spa's natural grottos when the children Fern and Wim, accompanied by their droid SM-33, entered the cave. They were searching for the concealed entrance to the secret lair of the famed pirate Captain Tak Rennod. The trio was unaware of Cthallops' presence until he addressed Fern, initially mistaking her for a member of the spa's staff. He requested that she bring him some refreshments, but as Fern nervously agreed to get him some, Cthallops stopped her, realizing that she did not have the scent of the attendants.
The patron slammed a tentacle down in front of Fern and asked if she was an assassin. At that moment, SM-33 attempted to confront Cthallops to defend his captain, but he was restrained by a restraining bolt. Cthallops was intrigued by the droid's reference to a "captain" and began conversing with Fern and Wim while the droid departed to locate their allies: the pirate Jod Na Nawood and the children Neel and KB. The alien then offered to assist the children in their quest if they would provide him with entertainment. Wim proceeded to tell Cthallops about their recent adventure on the planet At Achrann, where they had been forcibly enlisted into an army as child soldiers. Just as the story was reaching its most exciting point, Nawood, SM-33, Neel, and KB arrived, with spa security guards chasing after them. Wim then introduced Cthallops, whom he had told about Nawood. The alien took a sniff of the pirate and cautioned the children not to place their trust in him.

Nawood was not impressed with the children's new acquaintance until, at Fern's urging, the alien struck a section of the grotto's floor with his spiked tentacle. This section bore Rennod's emblem. The stone floor shattered, revealing a concealed well that led down to the legendary pirate's lair. Cthallops then used his tentacle to lower the group into the well, warning them that he could sense guards approaching once they were all inside. He concluded by requesting that, if they survived, he might one day hear the conclusion of their tale.
Cthallops was a large, [green](/article/color] alien. His face was monstrous and resembled an octopus, featuring protruding green eyes with vertical pupils. He possessed numerous tentacles, one of which was tipped with a large, spiked club. He had a highly developed sense of smell that allowed him to identify individuals and discern that the pirate Nawood was not to be trusted based on his scent. He appreciated a good story and was willing to help the children in exchange for entertainment, expressing his desire to hear more of their adventures.
Patrick Seitz provided the voice for Cthallops in "You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates," the fifth episode of the live-action Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. The episode was broadcast on December 24, 2024. According to Christopher Ford, the series's showrunner, Cthallops and other aspects of Lanupa drew inspiration from the movie Spirited Away.
