The CX squad represented a squad of elite special forces within the Galactic Empire. This unit was comprised of clone assassins originating from the Clone X trooper division of the Advanced Science Division. Dr. Royce Hemlock initially deployed the CX squad during Clone Force 99's rescue operation to free Omega and other clone prisoners. This squad consisted of CX-2, Sniper CloneX3, Sniper CloneX4, Sniper CloneX5, and another Clone X trooper. During the Wayland conflict, Royce Hemlock activated the entire squad. However, through the combined efforts of Clone Force 99, Vik, as well as the other clone prisoners held at Tantiss Base, the entire CX squad was eliminated.
The CX squad makes its debut in the Star Wars: The Bad Batch episode entitled "The Cavalry Has Arrived." During the production phase, either Sean or Deana Kiner, one of the Kiner siblings, began referring to the unit as "the Worst Batch." The Kiner sibling in question later recalled that Brad Rau was either amused or annoyed by this. The Star Wars fandom received an initial indication of the CX squad's impending appearance in the episode through a post from the Kiners, which was part of a sequence of cryptic tweets alluding to forthcoming Bad Batch episodes.
