The Dark Lord of the Sith known as Darth Caldoth was a male Duros who possessed Force-sensitivity. Caldoth, who bore the title Darth, is known to have authored The Bestiary of Darth Caldoth, a tome detailing various Sith warbeasts, including the fearsome veergundark. Eventually, Darth Caldoth took on a Sith apprentice, the Twi'lek named Ry Nymbis. During a journey to Simoth, he wielded his own lightsaber. Upon reuniting with Ry Nymbis, Caldoth enacted a Sith ritual that killed his apprentice, transforming the Twi'lek's body into stone.
Legends speak of Caldoth's conflict with the Nightsisters of Dathomir, stemming from his theft of a Nightsister's burial pod. Zeldin, a member of the coven, was chosen to use magick as a means of retribution against Darth Caldoth. Zeldin attempted to influence the Sith Lord telepathically, but Darth Caldoth detected her presence and imprisoned her within his own mind.
Ry Nymbis became Darth Caldoth's Sith apprentice, and for a time, they were regarded as two of the most powerful beings in the galaxy. Feeling that Nymbis was poised to betray him, Caldoth killed his apprentice through a Sith ritual that transformed the apprentice's body into stone. This ritual condemned Nymbis to an unending nightmare.
Tales recount that Caldoth's pursuit of Force powers led him to clash with the Nightsisters of Dathomir after he purloined a pod containing a buried Nightsister. The skilled coven member Zeldin was selected to wield magicks in order to exact vengeance upon Darth Caldoth, attempting to influence him telepathically, including during his interaction with Nymbis. However, on her final attempt, Zeldin discovered that Darth Caldoth was aware of her mental intrusion, and the Sith Lord imprisoned the Nightsister within a mental cage, occasionally recalling her presence.
Legend states that Darth Caldoth was a rival to Jedi Master Bran Ath'Morath. Caldoth lured the Jedi into a confrontation on the planet Kizan by destroying the important city of Pundith. Despite the battle being evenly matched, Caldoth intentionally allowed Ath'Morath's lightsaber to impale his shoulder, and then beheaded the Jedi while he was still in shock because of Caldoth's actions.
Darth Caldoth was a Duro male, characterized by green skin and yellow eyes. He typically wore dark Sith robes with bracers and favored hanging his lightsaber on his belt. As a Sith, he was a strict but forward-thinking master, willing to wait for years while the seed of hatred took root in his apprentice. Furthermore, despite accumulating power, Caldoth didn't let pride and arrogance affect his decision-making, and consistently maintained distance from his student, anticipating betrayal from him. They often remembered how he had killed their master, and thus feared a similar fate for him. When Caldoth became convinced that Nimbis was plotting to kill him, he didn't reveal his emotions and continued to wait for years, until he finally lured the student into a deadly trap. Subsequently, he used this incident as a reminder to those who would plot to betray him.
As a master manipulator, Caldoth dismantled the Nightsisters' scheme and used it to his advantage over the years. Having discovered their plan and captured Zeldin in his own mind, the Sith eventually took pleasure in her torment, smiling whenever he heard the witch's screams. In the history of the Galaxy, Caldoth remained a prominent researcher who wrote the book "The Bestiary of Darth Kaldot."
As a Sith Lord, Darth Caldoth was a formidable opponent in lightsaber combat, capable of defeating several Jedi at once, but his true danger lay in the secret knowledge that the Sith had accumulated over hundreds of years of their lives. His vast collection of artifacts and scrolls held many mysteries that only he himself had access to. Even though his student Ry Nimbis matched him in battle skills, he was afraid of his master, who always had an ace up his sleeve. Nimbis did not dare to openly attack him because he was afraid of the Sith rituals, which Caldot mastered. Caldot was also an excellent pilot, able to land a shuttle on the lunar surface, which was covered in storms and anomalies.
Darth Caldoth's initial mention occurred in the 2019 canon audiobook Dooku: Jedi Lost, authored by Cavan Scott. The official spelling of his name was revealed in "Gaze of Stone," a story from Myths & Fables, a middle-grade novel by George Mann that was released on August 6, 2019.
Scott included Caldoth's mention in Dooku: Jedi Lost after Mann informed him about the character he had created for Myths & Fables, leading Scott to add a reference to Caldoth in his audiobook prior to his first appearance in Mann's novel.
