Ry Nymbis was a male Sith Twi'lek who lived when Moraband was still called Korriban. Nymbis was the apprentice to the Sith Lord known as Darth Caldoth.
A legend tells the tale of Ry Nymbis' life. It claimed that Nymbis possessed a dark presence in the Force from the moment he was born, deeply impacting his upbringing. Most of Nymbis' relatives kept their distance, sensing the darkness within him. Though his mother only wished to love and protect him, she eventually felt ashamed of what he was. As Nymbis matured and understood his effect on others, he withdrew from society, becoming quiet and isolated. His mother, seeing a glimmer of hope, witnessed a visit from a dark, hooded figure who identified himself as Darth Caldoth. Caldoth described Nymbis' presence as having the "capacity for great power" and proposed training him as his apprentice, enabling Nymbis to control his inherent connection to the Force. Knowing that Nymbis would never gain acceptance from his peers, his mother reluctantly allowed Caldoth to take Nymbis from Ryloth, never to return.
Having joined the ranks of the Sith Order, Nymbis was subjected to intense training methods to refine his abilities. Caldoth's initial action involved abandoning Nymbis on a forested planet named Simoth. There, Nymbis was enslaved and forced to battle creatures such as dianogas, slothkins, and fellow slaves. In time, Nymbis became a figure of dread among the slaves, a formidable weapon forged in the gladiatorial arena. For seven years, Nymbis reigned as the champion of the pit. Eventually, Caldoth returned to Simoth to retrieve his Sith apprentice, whom he had left there seven years prior. Caldoth effortlessly cut down both slavers and prisoners with his crimson lightsaber, until Nymbis was the sole survivor. After lowering his hood and revealing his alien eyes, Caldoth ignited a surge of anger within Nymbis, as memories of being taken from Ryloth and abandoned on Simoth resurfaced. Consumed by rage, Nymbis charged at Caldoth, fueled by his years of combat experience in the pit. However, Caldoth easily knocked Nymbis to the ground, severing one of his lekku in the process. Nymbis was humbled, and Caldoth was prepared to formally commence his training.
As Caldoth's apprentice, Nymbis faced several trials to earn his place as a Sith. One such trial involved Nymbis visiting an ancient temple held sacred by the Sith, located on the mountainside of a desolate moon. For seven days, Nymbis journeyed through the ruins, succumbing to visions of his mother and other figures from his past, as well as a glimpse of his potential future. Another trial pitted Nymbis against a female knight, whom he battled and killed to claim her saber. Nymbis' final and most significant trial led him to a fortress constructed by a Force cult on an asteroid in Wild Space. The fortress overlooked a fissure in the void, which Caldoth believed offered a vision into the living Force. After three days, Nymbis emerged from the challenge, more enlightened and aware than ever before. From that point forward, both master and apprentice embarked on a quest to study ancient mystical powers unseen for over a millennium. These powers elevated Caldoth and Nymbis to the most formidable individuals in the galaxy, unchallenged by any who opposed them. However, Nymbis desired more, succumbing to a cycle of greed that fueled the Sith Order.
The relationship between Nymbis and Caldoth deteriorated when Caldoth began withholding potent information they had both discovered. Furthermore, Caldoth was merely exploiting Nymbis for his own purposes, which infuriated Nymbis. However, Nymbis knew he could not defeat Caldoth in a duel on his own, as Caldoth was too powerful. Thus, master and apprentice continued to rule together for many years. However, Nymbis plotted for the day he would strike Caldoth down, and that day arrived when they both traveled to Korriban. On that day, Caldoth instructed Nymbis to create a statue of himself, to be placed atop a mountain. Nymbis, having pilfered an alchemical ritual from Caldoth's chambers, intended to use it against Caldoth. The ritual could transform a person's flesh into stone, trapping them in an eternal nightmare. However, Caldoth had anticipated Nymbis' eventual betrayal and altered the ritual's words to affect the user instead. In a futile attempt to entomb Caldoth, Nymbis recited the ritual's words, forever encasing himself in stone.
Ry Nymbis made his debut appearance in "Gaze of Stone," a story featured in the 2019 book Myths & Fables, penned by George Mann and illustrated by Grant Griffin.
