A hologram of Tak Rennod, as it appeared in his datalog
Logs, which are also called datalogs, were a type of data storage device that pirate captains would use. Tak Rennod, a famous pirate captain, possessed his own datalog. Inside, he concealed the coordinates for the mythical planet At Attin. This Jewel of the Old Republic was said to have endless reserves of Old Republic credits. Before he died, Rennod placed the datalog within his hideout located on Lanupa. Around 9 ABY, former pirate Captain Silvo and four youngsters originating from At Attin, who were part of the Skeleton Crew, broke into the lair. With the assistance of the droid SM-33, Silvo was successful in gaining entry to Rennod's datalog and retrieving the planet's coordinates.
The datalog's first appearance in canon occurred in "You Have a Lot to Learn About Pirates," the fifth episode of the live-action series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, which premiered on December 24, 2024.
Before the series Skeleton Crew, datalogs were depicted as a physical medium capable of containing a written message in the non-canon game LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. The astromech droid R2-R9 was assigned to deliver a datalog to a Gungan wielding a spatula in the city of Otoh Gunga found on the planet Naboo. R2-R9 realized the city's numerous slopes were problematic for its treads and requested another individual to deliver the message, which came from the spatula's original owner requesting its return for cooking fish. The delivery was successful, and the Gungan agreed to give back the spatula, which the Gungan had been using to swat slug-beetles.
