Death Star medal

The Death Star medal represented a campaign medal presented to starfighter pilots from both Red Squadron and Gold Squadron within the Rebel Alliance. These pilots participated in the assault against the DS-1 Death Star Mobile Battle Station during the Battle of Yavin. Of all Alliance decorations, this medal was most frequently awarded posthumously. It was commonly displayed alongside the Defense of Yavin medal.

This medal featured a solitary silver pin, illustrating the original Death Star and a tiny Aurebesh numeral one positioned in its core. It was affixed beneath a ribbon rack on formal attire, or on the collar of a flight suit. A limited number of pilots possessed this medal, inspiring respect and reverence from their junior counterparts and those under their command. It was a more uncommon award than the Death Star II medal. Wedge Antilles was the sole individual authorized to wear both the Death Star medal and the Death Star II medal.
