Denell Kel'Vannon's professional life included a stint with the Corellian Security Force; however, he transitioned from CorSec to establish his own private practice. He based his business in Kor Vella on the planet of Corellia. As a private investigator, he handled a diverse range of cases, with a particular focus on missing individuals. Around the time of 0 BBY, he journeyed to Starlyte Station to investigate a disappearance. The individual in question had been abducted by Dahz Thulaka, with the approval of station proprietor Talandro Starlyte. Both Starlyte and Thulaka attempted to thwart his investigation, and the outcome of these efforts remains uncertain. Kel'Vannon survived this experience, as he later assisted his friend Shaedra Valouri in securing evidence to resolve a separate case on Corellia.
Kel'Vannon possessed a composed, easygoing, and collected demeanor, even when faced with difficult situations. He rarely became angry, preferring to allow others to display their emotions so that they might make errors he could take advantage of. He enjoyed his profession and was prepared to travel to any location for a paying assignment. He adhered to a strict moral code, refusing to accept assignments that were ethically questionable or to work for individuals with dubious reputations. He was charismatic and possessed a good sense of humor; however, his physical appearance was unremarkable.
Kell'Vannon frequently wore a black trench coat along with a blast vest. For self-defense, he carried a heavy blaster pistol, and he utilized a datapad for his investigative work.

Denell Kel'Vannon's character was conceived by Paul Danner and Bill Smith for Wretched Hives of Scum & Villainy, a supplement for the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game published by West End Games in 1997. Joe Corroney provided the illustrations. He also made an appearance as a non-player character in the video game Star Wars Galaxies, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game created by Sony and released by LucasArts, before it was shut down on December 15, 2011. His depiction in Galaxies differed significantly from the illustrations in the West End sourcebook.
