Dig-rigs were a type of machinery used for digging in the worm farming sector on the Outer Rim planet of Vernid. These machines were operated by teams of workers that included haulers, rigsmen, cranksmen, and light signallers. Some weeks following the Battle of Endor which occurred in 4 ABY, Major Soran Keize of the Imperial forces, who had deserted and was using the alias "Devon Lhent," sought employment on Vernid as a dig-rig worker. He operated the signalling lights as a way to start over after abandoning the Empire. Among his fellow crewmembers were Klevin the hauler, Nanchia the rigswoman, Vi'i'che the cranksman, and the young boy Tyros. Another individual working on the dig-rigs during this period was Grahamos.
The novel Alphabet Squadron from 2019 featured dig-rigs for the first time; it was the initial book in the Star Wars: Alphabet Squadron trilogy by Alexander Freed.
