History
Announcement

The initial announcement of Disney+ occurred in the latter part of 2017, outlining plans to create original content for both film and television, in addition to offering existing catalog titles. Bob Iger, the CEO of Disney, mentioned that "a few" Star Wars series were among the projects slated for the platform. Examples include The Mandalorian, a revival season of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars from Cartoon Network, along with its previous seasons, and a television series focusing on Cassian Jeron Andor.
In May of 2019, Iger indicated that a third live-action show might debut on the service before the anticipated 2023 premiere of a previously announced Star Wars movie, which was later identified as Obi-Wan Kenobi, centered on Obi-Wan Kenobi. A year later, the announcement came that a fourth animated series centered around Clone Force 99, titled Star Wars: The Bad Batch, would be released on the service sometime in 2021. According to Variety, all original content on the service was intended to appeal to a "broad family" audience.
