DRK-1 Dark Eye probe droid

The DRK-1 Dark Eye probe droid, also designated as the Sith probe droid, the Sith seeker, or even the Repair droid, represented a probe droid model deployed initially by the Sith and subsequently by the Galactic Empire.

Attributes

The DRK-1 probe took the form of a spherical probe droid with the ability to levitate. These droids, characterized by a singular eye, possessed a black-colored shell and were equipped with an antenna extending upwards from their globe-shaped chassis. The DRK-1 probe droids belonging to Darth Maul communicated using the Sisrai language. Certain DRK-1 probe droids were also outfitted with a micro-grenade launcher.

Historical Information

Darth Maul launches DRK-1 probes from Scimitar.

Darth Maul, the Sith Lord, employed a number of DRK-1 probes, maintaining a minimum of three of these spy droids on board the Scimitar, his personal starship. He made use of these droids to locate a freighter owned by the Haddrex Gang located on Nar Shaddaa. This led Maul and his bounty hunter compatriots to the hideout of Xev Xrexus within the Drazkel system. Once there, Maul followed one of the droids to the location where Eldra Kaitis, a Jedi Padawan, was being imprisoned.

Maul's probe droids move through the streets of Mos Espa.

In 32 BBY, Maul deployed three probe droids in an attempt to find Padmé Amidala, the Queen, on Tatooine. One of these droids successfully identified Qui-Gon Jinn, her Jedi protector, within Mos Espa. The droid transmitted this information back to Maul, who then promptly departed on his speeder, the Bloodfin, to engage Jinn in a lightsaber duel. However, one of these droids, after being rescued from a sandcrawler by a labor droid and in turn rescuing that same droid, chose to remain on Tatooine alongside its newfound companion.

During the Galactic Civil War, the Imperial Army utilized these droids as repair units, using them to perform on-site repairs to vehicles. However, they were unarmed, rendering them vulnerable to enemy attacks.
