Eldra Kaitis was a female Twi'lek of the Rutian species and a Force-sensitive individual. During the final years of the Galactic Republic era, also known as the twilight period, she served as a Padawan within the Jedi Order. Prior to the Invasion of Naboo, she was taken prisoner by the Xrexus Cartel. The Cartel's leader, Xev Xrexus, planned to sell the Jedi trainee to the highest bidder. Simultaneously, Darth Maul, the apprentice of the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, sought out Kaitis to test his combat skills against a Jedi.
During the auction event, Jee Kra emerged as the victor with the highest bid. However, Maul, accompanied by a hired contingent of bounty hunters, launched an ambush against them aboard their Shekelesh-class freight gunship. Unbeknownst to them, Xrexus had secretly sabotaged the ship, causing it to crash on the moon of Drazkel.
Despite the crash, they survived, and Maul freed Kaitis so she could assist him in fighting off the pursuing bounty hunters. Once the hunters were dealt with, Maul and Kaitis engaged in a duel. Despite her status as a Padawan learner and facing a Sith Lord, Kaitis fearlessly confronted Maul and managed to hold her own. Ultimately, she used a throw of her lightsaber to trap Maul under a pile of rocks. However, Maul survived the attack and, as Kaitis prepared to deliver the final blow, he killed her with a single strike from his red lightsaber. Her blue lightsaber broke and was left with her body after the conflict.
Maul contemplated that Kaitis possessed the potential to become a formidable Sith, but he ultimately eliminated her to quell his rage and prevent her from revealing his betrayal of Darth Sidious. Later, Maul used her name within the Coruscant Underworld to enlist the services of Zek Peiro, a Force-sensitive thief, before subsequently killing him.
The character of Eldra Kaitis was developed for the Star Wars: Darth Maul comic book series published by Marvel Comics.
