Du Mai
Du Mai, a world of desert, existed within the Du Mai system. This system was situated in the Bryx sector, which itself was located in the Slice region of the Mid Rim. A cave was present within a mountain on this world.
Around 21 ABY, a man revered as the Lost Prophet made his home in the cave. He attracted pilgrims by dispensing cryptic advice. In that year, Cindel Towani, a journalist, revealed the Lost Prophet's pronouncements were actually fragments of conditioning and flash-training that clone troopers from the Galactic Republic had been subjected to on Kamino. Kamino was an extragalactic planet and the birthplace of the clone army that served the Republic during the Clone Wars (22 BBY–19 BBY). Towani further presented evidence suggesting the holy man was a clone trooper pilot whose ARC-170 starfighter crashed on Du Mai near the end of that conflict, resulting in brain trauma.
Behind the scenes
Originally, Du Mai was slated to appear in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a 2012 reference book authored by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart. Although the section about the world was removed prior to publication, it was eventually released in 2014 as part of Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Warfare Author's Cut. This was a series of articles on the StarWars.com Blog by Fry and Del Rey editor Erich Schoeneweiss, featuring content that had been cut from the book. The Online Companion for The Essential Atlas, a 2009 reference book, placed the Du Mai system, and thus Du Mai itself, in grid square R-8.
