Ebonwood

Ebonwood was a wood of black coloration, with a greel ebonwood variation. Enric Pryde, the First Order Allegiant General, carried a lacquered ebonwood swaggerstick during the First Order-Resistance War. The design of this swaggerstick was inspired by military riding practices from Pryde's homeworld of Alsakan. At the same time, Rebel Alliance veteran Lando Calrissian possessed a lacquered cane made of greel ebonwood.

Behind the scenes

The greel ebonwood cane of Lando Calrissian made its initial appearance in The Galaxy Needs You, a picture book authored by Caitlin Kennedy and illustrated by Eda Kaban, which was published on December 17, 2019. The cane's design was based on Calrissian's appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the concluding film of the sequel trilogy, which premiered on December 20 of the same year.

Prior to its in-universe debut, the greel ebonwood cane of Lando Calrissian was depicted in concept art created by Glyn Dillon, the chief costume concept artist, and Matthew Savage, a prop concept designer. The cane was first shown before its debut in a StarWars.com article on September 26, 2019, which previewed upcoming Star Wars merchandise, including items related to The Rise of Skywalker. Pablo Hidalgo's reference book, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary, first identified ebonwood and greel ebonwood by name.
