Greel ebonwood

Greel ebonwood, a kind of ebonwood, shared a name with greel-wood. Around 35 ABY, Lando Calrissian, who was a Resistance member, one-time gambler, smuggler, and Rebel Alliance officer, as well as the Baron Administrator of the Cloud City settlement, owned a black cane made of lacquered greel ebonwood.

Behind the scenes

The first appearance of greel ebonwood was in Lando Calrissian's cane, featured in The Galaxy Needs You. This picture book was written by Caitlin Kennedy, with illustrations by Eda Kaban, and it was released on December 17, 2019. The illustration drew inspiration from Calrissian's appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, the sequel trilogy film that came out on December 20, 2019.

Various concept art drawings of Lando Calrissian's greel ebonwood cane were produced by Glyn Dillon, the chief costume concept artist, and Matthew Savage, the prop concept designer. Before its debut in in-universe material, the cane was initially shown on September 26, 2019, in a StarWars.com article that previewed upcoming Star Wars merchandise, including items related to the film. The name of the wood was given in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker: The Visual Dictionary by Pablo Hidalgo, a reference book for the film. On the solicitation cover for Titan Magazines' May 4, 2021 book, Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga – The Official Collector's Edition, Calrissian's cane, and thus greel ebonwood, was present, but it was not included on the final cover of the book.
