The vessel known as the Escape, previously designated Farbrooke's Hope, was a compact freighter. This ship was once the property of General Kleeve, a former member of the Confederate military. Following the conclusion of the Clone Wars, Kleeve transitioned into the role of a smuggler operating on Lahn. The Farbrooke's Hope, subsequently renamed the Escape, was then commandeered by Caleb Dume, an ex-Jedi Padawan, who transported it to Moraga. On Moraga, it was entrusted to the care of Morfizo, a member of the Moragan species. Years later, Dume, now known as Kanan Jarrus, returned and utilized the Escape in an operation to rescue Morfizo from the clutches of the Galactic Empire.
The smuggler operating under the alias "Jondo," who was in actuality the former General Kleeve of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, came into possession of the Farbrooke's Hope. He stored the freighter in Bay Seventeen, situated within the spaceport located on the planet Lahn.

In the months that followed the termination of the Clone Wars and the execution of Order 66, Kleeve negotiated a transaction with Janus Kasmir to exchange the Farbrooke's Hope for a consignment of spice. Kasmir journeyed to Lahn accompanied by his associate, Caleb Dume, who had previously faced Kleeve during the conflict on Kaller. While Kasmir departed to procure spice through illicit means, he dispatched Dume to liaise with "Jondo" and validate the particulars of their agreement. Upon arrival, Dume recognized the true identity of "Jondo," prompting him to draw his blaster pistol in astonishment. Kleeve managed to persuade Dume to lower his weapon and proceed with finalizing the trade arrangements, inquiring whether Kasmir had secured the spice. Upon discovering that Kasmir intended to barter the spice for a starship, he sought out Kasmir only to discover that he was being confronted by Commander Grey, who was actively searching for Dume. To avoid capture, Dume returned to Kleeve and requested to take possession of the ship prematurely, with Kasmir delivering the spice at a later date.
With reluctance, Kleeve escorted Dume to the vessel, informing him that Kasmir had planned to christen it the Kasmiri Two, in homage to his current ship. Dume conceived the name Escape, a designation that Kleeve deemed fitting given his circumstances. Before he could assume control of the ship, they were ambushed by Captain Styles, who incapacitated Dume and took him into custody. Kleeve, aboard the Farbrooke's Hope, along with Kasmir in his vessel, followed the Gozanti-class cruiser that held Dume captive. The cruiser unleashed fire upon both the Farbrooke's Hope and the Kasmiri, inflicting substantial damage to the shields of both vessels. However, Commander Grey, realizing that the clone troopers lacked autonomy when compelled to adhere to Order 66, sabotaged the cruiser's control systems and disabled its shields, enabling Kasmir and Kleeve to destroy it. They subsequently landed back on Kaller, where Dume resolved to part ways with Kasmir, taking possession of the ship, now officially named the Escape, and departed from the planet. He made planetfall on Moraga, where he encountered Morfizo, a Moragan, introducing himself as Kanan Jarrus.

For numerous years, the Escape remained on Moraga, safeguarded by Morfizo and his family. When the Galactic Empire captured Morfizo and transported him to Lahn, Jarrus, accompanied by Ezra Bridger, was conveyed to Moraga by Gamut Key. Jarrus pledged to liberate Morfizo, inquiring of his wife, Morfizia, about the condition of the Escape. Morfizia led them to the freighter, which Jarrus and Bridger then piloted to Lahn to rescue Morfizo. After landing the freighter on Illmek Island, the same location where Caleb Dume had previously been with Kasmir, Jarrus and Bridger disembarked to infiltrate the Imperial outpost situated on the island. Jarrus successfully rescued Morfizo and returned to the Escape, where they were soon joined by Ezra. They departed aboard the Escape, returning to Kaller, where Morfizo was reunited with his family, and Key arranged for the ship to be concealed in a secure location.
