Ewwen Glayyd

Ewwen Glayyd, a male Human, held the esteemed position of Mor, or clan leader, within the influential House Glayyd. This house was situated on Ammuud, a world within the Corporate Sector. Glayyd's rise to Mor occurred in 2 BBY, following the mysterious poisoning of his predecessor, Agmor, his father. The circumstances surrounding the death of the former Mor became clear some weeks later with the arrival of Han Solo, a Corellian smuggler, on Ammuud. Solo was investigating House Glayyd's connections to a slaving operation that owed him money. Solo aided Glayyd in avoiding a death duel with the famous gunslinger Gallandro, and then exposed Zlarb as the person responsible for his father's demise. In return, Glayyd assisted Solo in his pursuit of the clandestine organization.

Biography

Born into the distinguished House Glayyd, an ancient lineage on the planet of Ammuud in the Corporate Sector, Ewwen Glayyd faced considerable expectations from a young age. The Glayyds were among the most powerful families on a planet historically marked by persistent clan conflicts. While the establishment of the Code of Ammuud around 100 BBY had fostered an unstable peace, the leader of House Glayyd was still expected to be a formidable warrior. However, Ewwen Glayyd experienced ill health in his youth, leading many to doubt his capability to become the strong Mor needed to maintain the Glayyds' position on Ammuud. By 2 BBY, the Glayyds held the position as the strongest of the six founding clans of Ammuud, meaning that the other prominent families within the planet's society were always hopeful for the Mor Glayyd to suffer misfortune.

Ewwen Glayyd came to understand this fact quickly. In that year, Ewwen Glayyd was unexpectedly elevated to the position of Mor following the sudden passing of his father, Agmor, who was mysteriously poisoned by an unknown individual. Less than a month after his father's death, the new Mor unexpectedly found himself facing his own mortality. At a reception, a mysterious outsider named Gallandro insulted his sister Ido at a reception, even striking her. The Code of Ammuud mandated that Glayyd challenge the stranger to a death duel, unaware that Gallandro was a renowned gunslinger in the galaxy. Honor demanded that if Glayyd avoided the fight, he would violate his oath as clan protector, thereby losing significant popular support. However, just moments before the duel, a solution presented itself unexpectedly. Another outsider, Han Solo, a Corellian smuggler, arrived, claiming to have business with the Mor Glayyd. As Solo was a skilled gunfighter, Ido pleaded with him to intervene on her brother's behalf, leading to Gallandro withdrawing from the duel and allowing Ewwen to save face.

Following the duel, Solo explained his reasons for coming to Ammuud to Glayyd: he was pursuing a slaving ring that had defrauded him of 10,000 credits. His investigation had revealed that one of the group's leaders, Zlarb, had cleared several of his starships through House Glayyd's shipping firm. The Glayyds had intentionally remained ignorant of the group's activities because Zlarb and his associates paid them handsomely. Solo and his partner, Fiolla, hoped Glayyd could provide information about the ring's connections. Glayyd initially declined, citing the Silence, a provision of the Code of Ammuud, which prohibited him from betraying their trust, as Zlarb's people had always been faithful to the Glayyds. However, Solo revealed that Zlarb was a trained Malkite Poisoner, which piqued Glayyd's interest because the identity of his father's poisoner remained unknown. Glayyd quickly became convinced that Zlarb had murdered his father, rendering the Silence inapplicable. The Mor promptly handed over a data plaque containing all the information he had on Zlarb and his conspirators, information that implicated high-ranking individuals within the Corporate Sector Authority.

In the years that followed, the young Mor of House Glayyd dedicated himself to realizing his vision for Ammuud's future, reaching out to other clans to guide his homeworld away from its history of violence. He also initiated diplomatic efforts with the New Republic, a development that Han Solo, who later became a General in the New Republic military, considered a personal compliment.

Personality and traits

Ewwen Glayyd, an idealistic young man, held grand aspirations for the future of House Glayyd and all of Ammuud. Not naturally inclined to warfare, Glayyd instead envisioned a future of peace and prosperity for Ammuud, where his homeworld could move beyond its war-torn past with the Glayyds leading the way. While he harbored hopes for a new direction for Ammuud society, he remained strongly committed to its principles and traditions, believing that the Code of Ammuud was the only thing preventing his people from reverting to barbarism. This included dutifully challenging Gallandro to a death duel despite being hopelessly outmatched and adhering to the Silence even though it meant protecting slavers. However, he prioritized the safety of his sister and his kinsmen above all else and was willing to accept outside help. He readily assisted Han Solo and Fiolla once it became clear that the Code of Ammuud would not prevent him from doing so. Although he could not personally avenge his father's death, he found satisfaction in witnessing the downfall of those responsible.
