Fantail-class destroyers constituted a class of destroyer utilized by both the Corporate Alliance and subsequently by the naval forces of the Confederacy of Independent Systems in their conflict with the Galactic Republic throughout the Clone Wars. These Fantail-class destroyers played a defensive role for the Corporate Alliance, which was allied with the Confederacy during the war, protecting the corporation's headquarters located on the planet Murkhana, and received assistance from Sikurdian privateers.
The initial mention of Fantail-class destroyers within the new Star Wars canon occurred in Rise of the Separatists, which is a 2019 addition to Fantasy Flight Games' Star Wars Roleplaying product line. In the Star Wars Legends storyline, the Fantail-class destroyer was initially featured in Labyrinth of Evil, a 2005 novel written by James Luceno, where it was simply called "Fantail." Its complete designation was later provided in The Essential Guide to Warfare, a 2012 reference book created by Jason Fry and Paul R. Urquhart.
