Fire extinguisher

Fire extinguisher R2-D2 is shown here extinguishing a blaze on the Millennium Falcon A fire extinguisher served as a device that could expel either white foam or gas, possessing the capability to suppress fires.

During the events of the Battle of Sullust within the Clone Wars era, R2-D2 made use of a fire extinguisher that was integrated into his systems. He did this to save Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi along with his astromech droid, known as R4-P17, by releasing the extinguisher's contents onto their burning starfighter.

Coruscant Rescue Ops personnel employed portable suppression units resembling backpacks. These units consisted of lightweight alloy tanks, housing fire-retardant substances discharged through handheld nozzles.

Following escaping the first Death Star in the year 0 BBY, R2-D2 utilized this tool to extinguish a minor blaze that ignited aboard the Millennium Falcon. This occurred after the ship sustained damage from pursuing TIE fighters. Later, in 3 ABY, he once more deployed his integrated extinguisher while situated on Cloud City, this time as a smokescreen to disorient the pursuing stormtroopers.

Behind the scenes

In the LEGO Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith adaptation, after Obi-Wan Kenobi defeated Darth Vader in their duel on Mustafar, Vader, in his sorrow, was sitting too close to the lava and his pants caught on fire. Emperor Sheev Palpatine arrived just in the nick of time to extinguish the flames with a fire extinguisher, remarking that he preferred his Sith Lords serving the dark side and not incinerated. Despite this intervention, Vader was subsequently required to wear armor because of the burns he sustained.
