Forrians were diminutive, furry mammals residing on the planet of Batuu. These creatures gathered desiccated berries from the forest ground and possessed claws which aided them in grasping tree bark. Circa 379 BBY, the Jedi Padawan named Rooper Nitani came across these forrians while scaling a forest canopy on Batuu; she was in search of a shield that belonged to her Master, Silandra Sho. Sho had assigned her the task of locating the shield as a component of her Jedi Trials. Nitani's appearance made the forrians anxious, prompting her to try and emit soothing sensations to prevent an attack from their sharp claws.
The short story "Shield of the Jedi," authored by George Mann and featured in the 2023 young-adult collection The High Republic: Tales of Light and Life, which is part of the Star Wars: The High Republic transmedia initiative, marked the debut of the forrians.
