The Foundry existed as an ancient, extraterrestrial space station, deeply integrated within the structure of an asteroid.
This engineering marvel was constructed inside a gigantic asteroid, located within the Nanth'ri system, a system now lost to time. According to data acquired by Imperial Intelligence, the Foundry was comprised of a minimum of twelve production levels, each with the capacity to manufacture thousands of droids. A network of extensive tunnels permeated the asteroid, suggesting the use of automated mining droids to extract valuable ores from its interior. The Imperial Reclamation Service theorized that the facility employed a system of tractor beams to capture and disintegrate nearby asteroids, thus obtaining new raw materials for its continuous mass production processes.
It is believed that this facility is between twenty and thirty millennia old, having been constructed by a long forgotten alien species. Its specifications were consistent with those of three other space stations discovered by the Sith Empire, all of which possessed immense power. Among these stations were the Star Forge and another facility capable of performing xenoforming on entire planets. The full extent of the Foundry's production capabilities remained unknown, although it was suspected that it had the potential to reshape the entire galaxy.
Revan knew of the Foundry's existence but concealed this knowledge from the Sith Emperor. Following his rescue from the Maelstrom prison, he journeyed to the facility with the intention of deploying an army of extermination droids against the Sith Empire, hoping to eliminate the threat posed by the Emperor. However, Darth Malgus discovered Revan's location and instructed Moff Phennir to assemble a strike force. After the attack on the Dorin's Sky, the Imperials managed to infiltrate the station using a captured Republic vessel. Officer Martos remained behind while a strike team advanced through the Foundry, defeating Revan's personal droid, HK-47. Ultimately, the strike team confronted Revan in a fierce battle, which concluded with the Master of the Foundry vanishing in a burst of light. The Empire won the battle of the Foundry, and Darth Malgus ceded control of it to the Schism Collective, who salvaged HK-47 and later integrated some of the Foundry's capabilities into the Emperor's personal space station.
